Breaking: Urgent Decision for Istanbul Announced
According to a statement from the Istanbul Governor’s Office, restrictions have been imposed in Istanbul through the end of June. The decision restricts public gatherings, welcome and farewell events until the end of June. In addition, following complaints, the Governor’s Office has launched inspections of businesses such as restaurants and cafés that should close at midnight.
The inspection initiative notes that, after reports that some venues are not observing closing times and that social distancing rules are not being followed, Governor Ali Yerlikaya ordered a “New Normal” inspection. The recent announcement confirms that, across Istanbul, collective demonstrations, greeting ceremonies and farewell events are restricted until the end of June.
Inspections to Cover All 39 Districts of Istanbul
Inspections will be carried out across all 39 districts of Istanbul. Complaints that restaurants, cafés and coffeehouses which should close around 24:00 were not complying with closing hours and were failing to observe social distancing prompted Governor Ali Yerlikaya to initiate the “New Normal” inspections.
Following reports that businesses were not operating in accordance with the New Normal rules and were not respecting required precautions, authorities decided to carry out inspections. To prevent undesirable scenes at commercial premises and to encourage widespread compliance with the rules, simultaneous inspections will take place throughout June. Under Governor Ali Yerlikaya’s directive, inspectors will check adherence to social distancing, mask use, hygiene measures and closing times across all 39 districts. Authorities will also verify that businesses which should be closed remain shut. Administrative sanctions will be applied to establishments that fail to comply with the rules.
