New Electricity Pricing Plan Starts August 1: What You Need to Know

The New Electricity Pricing Tariff Starts on August 1st! According to breaking news, a new tariff period begins for electricity bills that affects millions of subscribers. The Energy Market Regulatory Authority announced that the Green Tariff, effective from August 1, 2020, will set prices that vary by customer group between 0.7925 and 0.9146 Turkish lira per kilowatt-hour.

The decision amending the Procedures and Principles for Tariff Applications of Legal Entities Holding Distribution Licenses and Designated Supply Companies was published in the Official Gazette and came into force. Under this regulation, consumers must submit a written request to their designated supplier to switch to the Green Tariff. The tariff change will take effect in the first billing period following the invoice issued after the index readings at the end of the period that contains the request date. Each subscriber may request to switch to the Green Tariff up to twice within a calendar year.

New Price Schedule for Electricity Bills Announced

The approval of the tariff table to be applied by designated companies for consumers who choose the Green Tariff was published in the Official Gazette and becomes effective starting August 1, 2020. The kilowatt-hour price for the Green Tariff and the distribution charge varies depending on low voltage or medium voltage, single-rate or two-rate pricing, and the purpose of use such as industrial, commercial, residential, agricultural irrigation, or lighting. Accordingly, kilowatt-hour prices will range between a low of 0.7925 TL and a high of 0.9146 TL. Excluding taxes, funds, and shares, the green energy fee charged by transmission system users is set at 0.6997 TL per kilowatt-hour. For consumers receiving energy from the designated supplier, the green energy fee, excluding the distribution charge, is also calculated as 0.6997 TL per kilowatt-hour.

What Is the Green Tariff in Electricity?

The Green Tariff is an application launched under the YETA name to increase the use of renewable energies across Turkey, a practice that is already widespread in many countries. The Green Tariff is defined under Article 17, paragraph 4 of the Electricity Market Law No. 6446 as the tariff set by the Authority to support renewable energy sources.
