You can check unemployment benefit status (İŞKUR unemployment benefit inquiry) through the e-Government portal or the İŞKUR system. This benefit is paid by the Social Security Institution (SGK) to people who have at least 600 days of paid insurance and become unemployed, to help them maintain their livelihood until they find a new job. The allowance is paid if an application is submitted. After applying, whether the applicant is entitled to receive payments — the unemployment benefit result — can be learned online or by visiting İŞKUR.
What Is Unemployment Benefit?
Unemployment benefit is a temporary financial support provided under the social state principle. It helps individuals who leave their job through no fault or will of their own to meet their needs and reduce financial loss until they find new employment.
If a person declares that they left their job without personal fault and applies for unemployment benefit, they may receive payment from the state if the application is approved. During this period, the recipient is expected to cover their basic needs. In cases such as workplace closures, eligible citizens apply to the state for unemployment benefits.
Who Can Receive Unemployment Benefit?
There are specific conditions to qualify for unemployment benefit. The most important requirement is previous insured employment. Other qualifying situations include:
- Termination of an open-ended employment contract by the employer without justified cause
- Expiration of a fixed-term employment contract
- Job loss due to collective redundancies
- Job loss due to workplace closure
- Job loss due to the end of the work
- Resignation by the worker for compulsory reasons
- Resignation by the worker for health reasons
- Resignation by the worker due to the employer’s actions contrary to moral and good faith principles
- Mandatory termination due to detention
- Mandatory termination by the employer due to health reasons
- Dismissals not caused by the worker under the Trade Unions, Strike and Lockout laws
- Termination due to transfer of the workplace, or change in the nature of the job or workplace
- Closure of the workplace by decree (KHK)
Unemployment due to inability to transfer to public employment because of a decree (KHK) is also included.
Conditions for Receiving Unemployment Benefit
Although the conditions for receiving unemployment benefit can seem strict for many people, these requirements exist to prevent abuse. It is essential that the employment relationship ended without the worker’s will or fault.
One basic condition is that the dismissed employee must not be at fault. Another requirement is that the applicant has completed at least 300 days of insured work in total. Additionally, the person must have worked at the same workplace for more than 120 days during the relevant employment period.
In simpler terms, if you have worked at your workplace for less than four months, you will generally not be eligible for unemployment benefit even if your workplace closes.

Who Is Not Eligible for Unemployment Benefit
Some people cannot receive unemployment benefit because they do not meet the core criteria for unemployment. Situations excluded from unemployment benefit include:
- Termination of a probationary employment contract by either the worker or employer
- Resignation by the worker from an open-ended employment contract
- Termination due to retirement
- Death
- Death resulting from a workplace accident
- Female workers leaving employment due to marriage (in some specific contexts)
- Leaving employment because other retirement conditions (aside from age) are met
- Transfer of the worker to another workplace of the same employer before the contract ends
- Change of status
- Termination by disciplinary board decision
- Termination by the employer due to the worker’s breach of moral and good faith rules
- Foreign workers whose visa has expired
- Leaving work to enter civil service
- Leaving work due to childbirth
Applying for Unemployment Benefit
To apply for unemployment benefit, applicants can visit an İŞKUR branch in person, complete the required forms, and submit their application. Alternatively, applications can be submitted through İŞKUR’s website or via the e-Government portal. You can follow up on your application with an İŞKUR unemployment benefit inquiry via e-Government or by visiting İŞKUR; results typically appear within about one month.
To apply, follow these steps:
- Prepare the necessary documents for individual or online application to İŞKUR.
- Required documents generally include proof of job termination, your identity card, a wage statement, and the application form obtained from the institution.
- Applications must be submitted within 30 days following job termination; otherwise the application will not be accepted and you will not be eligible for benefit.
- After completing documents, submit them to the responsible officer at İŞKUR and wait for the decision.
How to Check İŞKUR Unemployment Benefit Status
To check your İŞKUR unemployment benefit status, you need to wait for the processing of your İŞKUR application. Within about one month you can learn the result by visiting İŞKUR or by querying through the e-Government portal.
Follow these steps:
- Log in to the e-Government Citizen Platform.
- Search for İŞKUR and navigate to İŞKUR’s services page.
- The platform displays all information related to unemployment.
- If your application is approved, the benefit is paid starting the 5th day of the month following the approval via PTT centers. The amount is calculated based on your previous wages and insured days.

Phone Inquiry for Unemployment Benefit
Checking unemployment benefit by phone is often not possible due to high call volumes at İŞKUR. Instead, use the e-Government portal; results usually arrive within about one month (sometimes sooner).
You can also get information from İŞKUR call center advisors by calling ALO 170. During busy periods it may be difficult to get through, so e-Government inquiries are recommended. İŞKUR service centers also provide guidance to visitors in person.
Checking Unemployment Benefit via e-Government
You can check your unemployment benefit through the e-Government website. Access the e-Government portal, find İŞKUR services, and confirm the relevant information to see whether you have been granted benefit. Because results are delivered directly to the e-Government system, waiting about one month is usually sufficient.
During the inquiry you can also see the duration of the benefit and the amount you will receive. Since e-Government is directly connected with the institution, once İŞKUR approves your benefit you can expect payments to begin the following month.
PTT Unemployment Benefit Inquiry
To check unemployment benefit at PTT, visit your nearest PTT branch in person.
- Present your ID to the staff and ask whether unemployment benefit has been paid to you.
- Their system will show if an amount has been paid for you and they will inform you.
- If your application is approved, the unemployment benefit is paid through PTT on the 5th of the following month.
- If your application was approved but the payment has not yet appeared in your account, you should wait until the payment date on the 5th of the next month.
Note: PTT cannot perform an İŞKUR application status check. It can only show whether a payment is available for you. Therefore, confirm approval via e-Government and then await the payment date to collect your funds from PTT.
When Is the Unemployment Benefit Paid?
Unemployment benefit payments are scheduled for the 5th day of each month. Bringing payments forward is at the discretion of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Payments are made to the IBAN provided to İŞKUR or via PTTBank. The unemployment benefit result is typically available within one month at most.
