Istanbul Introduces New Measures on Metrobus Lines! Noting that the highest number of coronavirus cases have been seen in large cities like Istanbul, a new practice has been implemented. For Turkey’s most populous city, measures against the coronavirus have been extended to metrobuses. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has installed thermal cameras at metrobus stations identified as having the highest passenger volumes. Passengers detected with elevated temperatures by these thermal cameras are prohibited from boarding metrobuses. Those flagged by the thermal systems are directed to the nearest healthcare facility.
New Coronavirus Precaution from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced additional measures to combat the coronavirus. After installing thermal cameras at metro stations, the municipality has begun placing thermal screening systems on metrobus routes as well. Authorities first focused on stops with the highest passenger traffic and equipped those locations with thermal cameras.
The busiest stops were identified as Uzunçayır, Zincirlikuyu, Mecidiyeköy, Şirinevler and Avcılar. Thermal cameras have been installed at these stations to measure passengers’ temperatures. Individuals found to have elevated temperatures are directed to the nearest health unit for further evaluation.
Images from the thermal cameras at metrobus stations are transmitted to computers attended by security personnel. This allows security staff to see the temperature readings of passengers passing through the turnstiles on their screens in real time. When a passenger is identified with a high temperature, security staff inform them and move them to a designated area to wait. The security officer then contacts emergency services using 112 or the public health hotline at 184 to report the situation. Passengers with high temperatures are subsequently referred to the closest healthcare facility for assessment and care.
