Letter Sent to Governors in All 81 Provinces for Citizens Aged 65+

A letter has been sent to the governorates of all 81 provinces regarding citizens aged 65 and over. According to the latest breaking news, a new circular has been issued for those aged 65 and above. The Ministry of Interior has sent a travel circular to the governorates of the 81 provinces concerning citizens aged 65 and over. The circular states that, given the current stage of the coronavirus outbreak—with transmission and spread slowing, case increase rates declining, and the start of the tourism season—it is considered appropriate to permit travel for tourism purposes for citizens aged 65 and over.

According to the published circular, citizens aged 65 and over will be able to travel to their chosen destination for tourism purposes provided they obtain a Tourism Travel Permit. Applicants aged 65 and over may apply for the permit on behalf of up to six people, including themselves and close relatives in the same household situation such as spouse, siblings, or first-degree relatives.

How to Obtain a Travel Permit for Those Aged 65 and Over

How will the Travel Permit for those aged 65 and over be obtained? Citizens aged 65 and over who wish to obtain a Tourism Travel Permit can apply via the Alo 199 Vefa Social Support Line or electronically through the e-Government system, using the Ministry of Interior’s e-application platform. In the application form, applicants must select one of the tourism options such as hotel holiday, summer house, timeshare, rented house, villa, or caravan vacation. For hotel reservations, applicants must upload reservation documents; for summer houses or timeshares, title deed copies; and for rented villas or houses, rental contracts at the time of application.

Applicants requesting a Tourism Travel Permit will indicate whether they plan to travel by bus, plane, train, or private vehicle. The application will include questions about any current coronavirus infection or other specified illnesses. Citizens will not be required to visit healthcare facilities or units to obtain the permit: applications will be evaluated automatically. Applicants will be notified of the results by SMS. Once an application is approved, a printable approval document may be obtained through the e-Government system. Personal data of approved applicants aged 65 and over will be automatically shared with the governorate of the destination and with the applicant’s registered family physician.
