MEB Announces Application Dates for Hiring Disabled Teachers

The Ministry of National Education Announces Application Dates for Disabled Teacher Recruitment. The long-awaited announcement has been made. Dozens of candidates with disabilities waiting to apply for teaching positions have received the news they were expecting. Candidates who wish to apply for the disabled teacher recruitment announced by the Ministry of National Education must meet certain requirements. Foremost among these is participation at the undergraduate level in the EKPSS examinations held in 2016 and 2018. From among those who took these exams, a total of 750 disabled teachers will be recruited based on their exam scores, with priority given to higher scores.

What Are the Requirements for Disabled Teacher Recruitment?

The requirements for the Ministry of National Education’s recruitment of 750 disabled teachers are as follows. Candidates must meet the criteria listed below to be eligible:

  • Meet the general conditions set out in Article 48 of the Civil Servants Law No. 657.
  • Be a Turkish citizen. Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are exempt from the Turkish citizenship requirement.
  • Have achieved a score of 50 or above on the Disabled Public Personnel Selection Examination (EKPSS) at the undergraduate level in 2016 or 2018. Candidates who took both exams will be evaluated using whichever EKPSS result is higher.
  • The undergraduate degree required for appointment to a teaching post must be recognized in accordance with the Board of Education and Discipline decision dated 20.02.2014 and numbered 9.
  • Those who graduated from higher education institutions abroad must have their degrees or pedagogical formation certificates recognized as equivalent to domestic programs by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
  • For appointment, candidates must have successfully completed either a non-thesis Master’s program in Secondary Education Field Teaching established by the Ministry in cooperation with the Council of Higher Education, or a Pedagogical Formation Program / Pedagogical Formation Training Certificate Program, in accordance with the Board decision dated 20.02.2014 and numbered 9. Where required, completion of one of these programs is mandatory.
  • Must not have received a penalty that would require dismissal from civil service or the teaching profession.
  • Those previously appointed to a teaching position who did not begin their duty must have completed a one-year waiting period from their appointment date as of the last day of the application period.
  • Except for those whose employment ended for health reasons, candidates who were dismissed during their candidacy period must have completed the three-year waiting period between the date of leaving employment and the last day of the application period.
  • Candidates who are currently employed in teacher positions within the Ministry or other public institutions are not eligible to apply under this announcement, pursuant to Article 14, Paragraph 1 of the Regulation on EKPSS and Appointment of Disabled Persons to Civil Service published in the Official Gazette dated 07.02.2014 and numbered 28906.
  • Applicants who have already been placed into any position based on an EKPSS result under the Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 02.2014 and numbered 28906 are not eligible to apply for placements under this announcement using the same valid EKPSS score for the same education level.

When Are the Application Dates?

According to the Ministry of National Education’s announcement, the application dates for the recruitment of 750 disabled teachers have been determined. Applications will be accepted from February 3 to February 7, 2020. Following the application period, appointments for successful candidates who applied will be made on February 11, 2020.

Applications for the 750 disabled teacher positions announced by the Ministry will be submitted online. Candidates who wish to apply can complete their applications through the mebbis.meb.gov.tr or personel.meb.gov.tr portals. Applicants must fill out the Electronic Application Forms available on the specified sites to complete their applications.
