Receiving birth assistance for twin children is subject to certain conditions set by the state for citizens with twin babies. Citizens of the Republic of Turkey and holders of the blue card can apply for twin support. Applications for multiple births such as twins and triplets, which are usually made by mothers, can also be submitted by fathers under the new regulations.
The main goal of the support provided to families with multiple births is to ease the increased expenses parents face. Monthly cash support for families with multiple children is paid regularly each month until the children reach two years of age. According to the most recent regulations, the support payment for the 0–2 age range was set at 150 TL per child in 2022.
The application for twin child assistance, included among the Family and Social Policies Ministry’s 2022 projects, is made to provincial directorates. The project aims to provide financial help to families with twins so they do not struggle while caring for two infants. Launched in 2022, this program is intended to be a meaningful aid for families experiencing double joy.

Birth Assistance Provided by the State
The state provides various supports and benefits for mothers who give birth. Different types of assistance are available for all mothers, for mothers in need, and for working mothers. Some of the birth-related supports provided by the state include:
- Birth Assistance: This grant is available to every mother who is a Turkish citizen or a blue card holder. Applications for this benefit are made to provincial directorates of the Family and Social Policies Ministry. It is granted for births that occurred on or after 15.05.2015; births before this date are not eligible. Since 2015, the birth assistance amounts are:
- 300 TL for the first child,
- 400 TL for the second child,
- 600 TL for the third and subsequent children.
These amounts for single births change for multiple births. Mothers who meet the multiple birth assistance conditions and are Turkish citizens or blue card holders receive different amounts. Example calculations for multiple birth assistance are as follows:
- If a mother has twins and is a first-time mother, the birth assistance payment would be 700 TL. In this calculation one twin is counted as the first child and the other as the second child.
- If a mother has twins and this is her second birth, the birth assistance payment would be 1000 TL. In this calculation, because the mother already had a child before, the twins are counted as the second and third children.
- Maternity Pay: Maternity pay is often confused with birth assistance. Maternity pay is provided by the Social Security Institution (SGK) to working mothers for the days they cannot work during maternity leave. Under national labor law, employed mothers are entitled to 16 weeks of leave in total—8 weeks before and 8 weeks after birth.
Maternity pay is calculated for these weeks and paid to the mother. For multiple pregnancies, the leave is extended by two weeks before birth and two weeks after birth, increasing the paid period. To receive maternity pay, at least 90 days of premium payments must have been made in the last year prior to birth. In 2022, the minimum maternity payment could be 6,815.08 TL. Because leave is extended in multiple births, the maternity pay amount also increases.
- Breastfeeding Allowance: The breastfeeding allowance is provided under the law as an emzirme (nursing) payment. Breastfeeding allowance for twins can be received if either the mother or the father is employed and covered by SGK. If the mother is not insured, the father must be employed and insured. The breastfeeding allowance is a one-time payment and was 180 TL in 2022.
What Is Conditional Health Assistance from SYDV and Who Is Eligible?
When mothers in need give birth, the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations (SYDV) provide conditional health assistance. This support is available when the household per capita income is less than one-third of the current minimum wage.
To ensure children aged 0 to 6 receive regular health checks and follow-up, cash and regular assistance payments are provided. These cash supports include:
- If the birth takes place in a hospital, a one-time payment of 75 TL is made.
- If prenatal health checks are performed regularly, a monthly payment of 35 TL is made.
- After birth, two one-time payments of 35 TL are made.
If the required check-ups are completed until the child reaches six years old, a regular monthly payment of 30 TL is provided.
