Breaking News: Curfew Continues This Weekend in 15 Provinces. The weekend curfews enforced as part of coronavirus measures will remain in effect this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31. According to the announcement from the Ministry of Interior, a curfew will be implemented in 14 metropolitan provinces and Zonguldak on May 30–31, 2020. The curfew will begin on Saturday, May 30 at 00:01 and continue until Sunday, May 31 at 24:00.

Based on the information released, the weekend curfew restrictions are outlined as follows. The curfew will apply across the 14 provinces with metropolitan status and in Zonguldak this weekend as well. Before the curfew begins, on Friday, May 29, markets, grocery stores and butcher shops will remain open until 23:00 to serve residents.

Which Provisions Are Included in the Curfew Circular?

The circular detailing the curfew measures for May 30 (Saturday) and May 31 (Sunday) lists the following provisions.

  • On Saturday, May 30, businesses such as grocery stores, greengrocers, butchers and nut shops will be allowed to operate between 10:00 and 17:00. During these hours they may also deliver to homes.
  • Bakeries and other establishments that produce bread and baked goods will remain open on both Saturday and Sunday. Businesses that produce sweets and confectionery will also be allowed to operate.
  • On days and at times when leaving the house is restricted, shops that sell sweets may provide home delivery service when customers cannot go out.
  • Restaurants and eateries will only offer home delivery services on Saturday and Sunday during the curfew.

The curfew measures on Saturday and Sunday will apply to the following metropolitan provinces and Zonguldak:

  • Ankara
  • Balıkesir
  • Bursa
  • Eskişehir
  • Gaziantep
  • İstanbul
  • İzmir
  • Kayseri
  • Kocaeli
  • Konya
  • Manisa
  • Sakarya
  • Samsun
  • Van
  • Zonguldak

In the provinces listed above, provincial governors and public health boards have issued the decisions under Article 11/C of the Provincial Administration Law and Articles 27 and 72 of the Public Health Law. Accordingly, in these 15 provinces, from 24:00 on May 29, 2020 until 24:00 on May 31, 2020, residents’ movements will be restricted except for the exceptions specified in the measures.
