Face Masks Now Mandatory Nationwide in Turkey — Fines for Violators Starting Tomorrow

Breaking News: From Tomorrow, Fines Will Be Issued Nationwide to Those Not Wearing Masks. According to the latest announcement, starting tomorrow all citizens who do not wear masks nationwide will be subject to a financial penalty. In a circular sent by the Ministry of Interior to the governors of 81 provinces, it is stated that from Monday, June 22, 2020, anyone who fails to comply with the mask requirement will be fined 900 TL.

Following the Ministry of Interior’s instructions to the provincial administrations, a 900 TL administrative fine will be imposed on those who do not adhere to the mask requirement as of tomorrow. The ministry issued guidance to the 81 provincial governorates on June 18, 2020, regarding the mask mandate introduced due to the coronavirus outbreak. The ministry requested that any violations be communicated and warned until June 22, 2020, and that a 900 TL administrative fine be applied thereafter. In line with the directive, law enforcement carried out inspections across the country for four days to inform and warn citizens who were not wearing masks.

From June 22, 2020, a 900 TL Fine Will Be Applied to Those Not Wearing Masks

As of June 22, 2020, a 900 TL administrative fine will be applied to people who do not wear masks under the circular sent to all 81 provinces. Starting tomorrow, those who fail to comply with the mask requirement will be fined 900 TL in accordance with Article 282 of the Public Health Law (Umumi Hıfzıssıhha Kanunu), applied nationwide.

The mask requirement applies in all areas of life in 48 provinces and in specific settings—such as shopping centers, markets, restaurants, cafes, and hair salons—in 33 provinces. In short, masks are mandatory in places where people gather and at workplaces.
