ÖSYM President Issues Crucial YKS Announcement

The ÖSYM President Made a Highly Important Announcement About the YKS! The Head of the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) announced that, as part of coronavirus precautions, masks and disinfectant will be provided to candidates for the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Candidates who wish may also bring their own masks, face shields and disinfectant. The ÖSYM President stated that 2,437,119 candidates applied for this year’s exam, which will be held on June 27–28, 2020.

In line with the decision taken by the Higher Education Council, the time allotted for the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) has been increased by 30 minutes in addition to the original 135 minutes, bringing the total to 165 minutes. Also, the 180-point threshold normally required to be eligible to choose undergraduate programs placed through central placement has been temporarily lowered to 170 points for this year, provided the relevant score type applies. The President noted that 2020 YKS candidates will be responsible for the subjects they attended in face-to-face education. Twelfth grade students will only be responsible for topics covered during the first term and will be exempt from second term topics.

The first session of the YKS, the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT), will begin on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:15 and candidates will be given 165 minutes. The second session, the Field Proficiency Tests (AYT), will start on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 10:15 and last 180 minutes. The third and final session, the Foreign Language Test (YDT), will begin on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 15:45 and candidates will have 120 minutes. According to the ÖSYM President, candidates must be present at the exam building at least one hour before the examination time. Entry to exam buildings will not be permitted after 10:00 for morning sessions and after 15:30 for afternoon sessions.

What coronavirus measures have been taken for the YKS? The ÖSYM President said he has been closely monitoring coronavirus preparations for the exam. He explained that detailed cleaning and disinfection of exam buildings will be carried out before the exams. As part of coronavirus measures, masks and disinfectant will be distributed to candidates at the entrances of exam buildings before each session. Candidates who prefer may bring their own masks and disinfectants. Exam staff will also be provided with masks, disinfectant and gloves.

In addition, candidates who have coronavirus will be accommodated separately in prepared backup buildings at all exam centers. Candidates diagnosed with coronavirus, those undergoing treatment or in quarantine, candidates who have been in contact with Covid-19 cases and are in quarantine, and those suspected of having Covid-19 must inform the ÖSYM Presidency of their situation before the exam. The results of the YKS are scheduled to be announced on July 28, 2020.
