Breaking news on natural gas prices: BOTAŞ has announced the August natural gas tariffs that many sectors—especially industrial users—have been eagerly awaiting. While the base natural gas prices remain unchanged for all subscriber groups, BOTAŞ has introduced a significant incentive for higher-than-contracted gas consumption. Industrial users and power plants that consume gas above their contracted volumes will be charged 1,260 TL per thousand cubic meters instead of 1,400 TL. BOTAŞ has published the gas sales prices for August.
Looking back at July, the cost of each thousand cubic meters of gas imported from Russia in the third quarter fell from $230 to $183. Within this context, the company implemented reductions effective July 1: a 9.6% decrease in the industrial tariff and a 12.5% decrease in the power plant tariff. After removing taxes, industrial consumers’ rate moved from 1,550 TL and power plants’ from 1,600 TL down to 1,400 TL. The residential tariff was left unchanged.
August Tariff
According to the announcement, the August tariff established by BOTAŞ is particularly important for industrial customers and power plants. From August 1 onward, gas sales prices are held steady across all subscriber groups. Industrial users and power plants will be able to purchase gas at 1,400 TL per thousand cubic meters.
At the same time, BOTAŞ has taken a notable step to encourage consumption: industrial consumers and electricity-producing power plants that requested or withdrew gas above their contracted amounts in August will not pay the full 1,400 TL per thousand cubic meters for those excess volumes. Instead, that excess consumption will be billed at 1,260 TL per thousand cubic meters. This reduced rate applies only to the quantity that exceeds their contractual limits.
