President Announces 4-Day Lockdown and New Measures

The President Announced a 4-Day Curfew and New Measures! Breaking news: following the cabinet meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a four-day curfew will be implemented. The curfew will take place on 16, 17, 18 and 19 May 2020. Citizens aged 65 and over will still be allowed outdoors on Sunday, 17 May, between 11:00 and 15:00. Meanwhile, children up to age 14 will be allowed out on Wednesday, 20 May, and young people under 20 up to age 15 will be allowed out on Friday, 22 May 2020, between 11:00 and 15:00. In addition, entry and exit restrictions have been lifted for nine provinces.

Some countries have managed to bring the coronavirus outbreak under control, while in others the epidemic is just beginning or showing signs of recurrence. The situation has once again underlined the importance of masks, physical distancing and hygiene. People must not leave their homes without a mask, and life will not return to pre-pandemic norms immediately; measures will remain in place to make daily life safer under pandemic conditions. Citizens aged 65 and over may go outside on 17 May, Sunday, between 11:00 and 15:00. Those under 20 have designated outdoor hours on 20 May (Wednesday) and 22 May (Friday) 2020. Entry and exit restrictions have been removed for the following nine provinces.

Barbers, hairdressers, beauty centers and shopping malls have reopened as of today. These businesses will serve the public while adhering strictly to mask requirements, physical distancing and hygiene rules. Notaries have also returned to normal working hours. A maximum price cap of 1 TL has been set for masks on the market. Work is ongoing to allow the sale of washable masks under defined standards as soon as possible. May unemployment payments have been brought forward. With the harvest season starting, fresh tea purchases will begin; the 2020 purchase price for fresh tea has been set at 3.27 TL per kilogram.
