Working from home has been implemented due to the coronavirus. The work-from-home model has been put into effect as a precaution against the coronavirus, which has spread around the world and is also present in Turkey. As part of measures to combat the virus, companies and institutions are adopting remote work where possible. In Turkey, as in other countries, a formal work-from-home arrangement has been introduced for precautionary reasons. According to recent announcements, technopark companies and staff at R&D and design centers will be able to work from home until the end of April 2020.
The Turkish government continues to increase measures against the coronavirus each day. In countries affected by the virus, such as Germany, short-time work allowance schemes have been activated. In Turkey, authorities are reviewing measures in the world of work to prevent a contraction of labor activity. One of the options under consideration is a short-time work allowance to mitigate the economic impact of the outbreak.
The Number of Remote Workers Will Be Reported Monthly
The number of remote workers will be reported monthly. Following a joint decision by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, exemptions and incentives that apply to technopark companies and R&D and design centers have been extended to allow remote work. According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, “This temporary practice, to be applied for two months, enables companies to allow their center personnel to work from home.” Under the current practice, these units must normally carry out their activities physically in the specified areas in order to benefit from exemptions and incentives.
Companies covered by the arrangement are required to report monthly to the Ministry of Industry and Technology the number of employees they deem suitable for working from home. In this way, they will continue to benefit from available incentives through the end of April 2020. Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology, stated on his social media account that the three ministries reached a joint decision due to the risk posed by the outbreak and announced that the specified companies would implement work-from-home arrangements until the end of April 2020.
