Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy emphasized that Turkey, like other countries, has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak and that the country learns lessons from every crisis. He noted that many countries are beginning to recover from the virus. The minister added that, provided no setbacks occur, domestic tourism movement will start on May 28, 2020. He also indicated that they expect international tourism to resume with certain countries starting around mid-June.

In his remarks, Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy explained that hotels were not closed by choice but had to suspend operations because air and land traffic halted. He underlined that all necessary steps have been taken regarding circulars and requested criteria. The minister stressed that it is essential to fully establish a perception of safety, and for that purpose they have launched detailed certification programs. He noted that this certification program is among the first worldwide and that they are considering a similar initiative within the EU.
Minister Ersoy stated that, regarding domestic flights, his projection is that if there is no relaxation in public discipline and coronavirus indicators continue to decline, the tourism sector could reopen around the end of May. He added that international flights are likely to begin again in many destinations around mid-June.
