In the latest update, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced news that will be welcomed by citizens aged 65 and over. Minister Koca stated that, starting tomorrow, citizens aged 65 and over who wish to travel to their hometowns may be granted permission to leave for up to one month without returning, subject to conditions.

Speaking after the Scientific Board meeting, Minister Koca emphasized that the most cautious group has been our elders, and noted that young people have also shown caution. He said he discussed the matter with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and that there would be good news for citizens aged 65 and over. Following the president’s directives and the recommendations of the Scientific Board, those aged 65 and over who wish to travel to their hometowns can obtain permission from the local district governor’s office (kaymakamlık), provided they are going to a fixed address where they will stay and provided there are no health concerns. The permission procedure can begin tomorrow for those who intend to travel to their hometowns and remain away for one month.

Family physicians will assess whether the individual is fit to travel and will issue a confirmation if there are no signs of illness.

Family physicians will also continue to monitor those who travel and will keep them under close follow-up, directing them to local health facilities if necessary. Travelers aged 65 and over may be accompanied by one, or at most two, persons and must obtain permission from the district governor’s office. Travel will be allowed as a one-way trip to the destination, with the condition that the traveler will not return for one month. The district governor’s office will verify these conditions before granting permission.
