Customs Duties Reduced to Zero on Certain Products! In breaking news, a presidential decision by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has exempted specific goods from customs duties. Chief among these exempted items is ethyl alcohol. The decision was published in the Official Gazette and reads as follows: the customs duty applied during the importation of ethyl alcohol used in the production of cologne and disinfectants has been reduced to zero.
According to the supplementary decision to the import regime announced in today’s Official Gazette, bulk ethyl alcohol imports have been added to the list of agricultural products that qualify for reduced customs duty under final use legislation.
Single-Use Masks Exempted from Customs Duty!
Single-use masks have also been exempted from customs duty. As global demand for disposable medical masks continues to rise during the coronavirus pandemic, an additional customs duty exemption has been granted. Under the decision, disposable medical masks—highly sought after to combat COVID-19—have been added to the list of items excluded from extra customs charges.
The relevant measure entered into force when the Presidential Decree Amending the Supplementary Decision to the Import Regime was published in today’s issue of the Official Gazette. According to this decree, disposable medical masks that fall under the “other ready-made articles” classification and would otherwise be subject to a 20% additional customs duty are now excluded from that additional duty.
