Schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will be closed tomorrow. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated that the question of closing schools because of the coronavirus will be discussed in the coming days with the Ministry of National Education. He added that the Science Board will advise on limits for national conferences that do not involve international participation, determining how many attendees are acceptable. He said they expect to clarify this within one to two days.

Separately, the TRNC Minister of National Education and Culture, Nazım Çavuşoğlu, announced that schools there have been suspended until March 15, 2020 due to the coronavirus.

The coronavirus, which is affecting nearly the entire world, has also led to rising case counts and deaths in several countries. In Spain, the latest reported death toll reached 35, and confirmed cases exceeded 1,500. In some of the hardest-hit areas—such as Madrid, La Rioja, and the Basque regions including Vitoria and Labastida—schools have been closed for two weeks.
