Check Driver’s License Status by Turkish ID Number

You can check your driver’s license status and complete related procedures quickly and conveniently through the e-Devlet platform using your Turkish ID number.

How Do You Get a Driver’s License?

The process of obtaining a driver’s license typically proceeds as follows:

  • You enroll in a driving school. Almost every district in Turkey has at least one driving school.
  • Classes begin on the dates determined by the school. Trainees first attend theoretical lessons.
  • After roughly two weeks of theoretical lessons, trainees take the theoretical exam.
  • Those who pass the theoretical exam proceed to practical driving lessons. The number of practical lessons varies between schools.
  • When practical lessons are complete, trainees take the driving test. Each trainee has up to four attempts in total.
  • Based on the examiners’ evaluation during the test, successful candidates receive their driver’s license.

Which Theoretical Subjects Are on the License Exam?

The theoretical lessons at driving school include the following subjects:

  • First Aid (12 questions)
  • Traffic and Environment (23 questions)
  • Vehicle Mechanics (9 questions)
  • Traffic Etiquette (6 questions)

The numbers in parentheses indicate how many questions from each subject appear on the theoretical exam.

What Should You Watch for in the Driving Test?

Common mistakes to avoid during the driving test include:

  • Not wearing a seat belt
  • Ignoring traffic lights and signs
  • Disregarding commands from traffic police
  • Violating overtaking rules
  • Failing to signal
  • Having difficulty with L parking
  • Being unable to park the vehicle

Mistakes made during the exam carry different point penalties. The items above are considered high-penalty errors. Most examiners are not overly strict about a single stall of the vehicle, but failing to signal can lead to immediate termination of the exam.

How Are License Exam Results Checked?

License exam results are published on e-Devlet. Some examiners may inform trainees of their results immediately after the exam, but this is not a standardized practice. Examiners are not obligated to announce results in person. Theoretical exam results can also be learned via e-Devlet. In this way, checking a license with an identity number is completed.

When Are License Exam Results Announced?

With current systems, the announcement of license exam results can take only a few seconds. Candidates who finish the theoretical exam can learn their scores as soon as they complete it. License exams are now conducted electronically.

Candidates answer a total of fifty questions and, after declaring the exam finished, proceed to a results terminal. The terminal prints a receipt similar to a store receipt showing the candidate’s score.

How to Check if a License Plate Is Available

To check whether a license plate is available, consider one of the following options:

  • General Directorate of Security
  • Traffic Registration Branch Directorates
  • SMS service
  • Insurance Information and Monitoring Center

The simplest way to learn whether a plate is available is via SMS. Send a message with the word “DETAY” followed by a space and the desired plate to 5664. If the plate is already in use, you will receive a reply with the plate details. If the plate is available, no message will be returned.

This SMS service costs approximately 8 ₺. Plate availability queries are not available through e-Devlet; due to misuse by bad actors, plate query functionality was removed from the system.
