Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced a support campaign for university students. Under the “Young University Student Support” program, eligible students will receive a total of 4,500 TRY deposited into their accounts. Students who apply within the specified dates and meet the criteria after document review will receive payments in installments during the academic year.
HOW TO BENEFIT FROM THE YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENT SUPPORT?
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has launched a grant program aimed at university students from low-income families. Now in its third year, the program offers dozens of students the opportunity to receive 4,500 TRY. Payments will be made in three separate installments. Applicants who upload all required documents correctly during the online application will be evaluated by a review committee, and those meeting the eligibility criteria will be approved for the grant.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENT SUPPORT?
To qualify for the student grant, applicants should meet the following conditions:
- The applicant or their family must reside in Istanbul
- Students enrolled in associate (vocational) or undergraduate degree programs may apply
- Students attending private universities on a full scholarship or enrolled in state universities are eligible
Students who are not in their final year should note the academic requirement below:
- Final-year or mid-program students must have a year-end GPA of at least 53 out of 100, or at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale
WHERE TO APPLY FOR THE YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENT SUPPORT?
Applications are accepted online. Those who wish to apply for the support can submit their application through the program’s official website at www.gencuniversiteli.ibb.istanbul.

WHEN WILL APPLICATIONS OPEN?
Applications will be accepted online starting on September 26 and will close on October 16. The program accepts applications from university students under the age of 25.
WHEN WILL THE SUPPORT PAYMENTS BE DEPOSITED?
Payment dates have been finalized. After a successful application, the grant will be paid into beneficiaries’ accounts in three installments beginning in October.
WHO CANNOT APPLY FOR THE YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENT SUPPORT?
The following groups are ineligible to apply:
- Individuals older than 25 years
- Students enrolled in open education programs
- Distance education students
- Students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees
- Participants in paid exchange programs
IS THE 4,500 TRY SUPPORT REPAYABLE?
The grant is provided as a non-repayable support payment. No interest or repayment is required; students receive the amount in three installments. Over the past three years, the Young University Student Support program has allowed more than 75,000 students to benefit from the municipality’s education grants.
WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE ONLINE APPLICATION?
Applicants must upload certain documents during the online application. Required documents include:
- Copy of national ID card
- Family registry extract (vukuatlı nüfus kayıt örneği)
- Document showing any existing scholarship
- Disciplinary record or certificate
- Criminal record showing no convictions (sabıka kaydı) or equivalent certificate
- Income document or pay slip demonstrating the family’s financial situation
- If applicable, a copy of any disability report for the applicant or a family member
- Proof of active enrollment for siblings who are also studying (students who have frozen their enrollment or who are in open education are not considered)
