With advancing technology, we can now handle many tasks online, including various inquiries. By logging into institutions’ websites with your national ID number and password, you can perform many transactions. Scholarship and loan inquiries are among these services. In this article, we will explain how to check overseas loan and scholarship (credit-burs) status.
Before describing the overseas loan-scholarship inquiry process, let’s look at how students studying abroad can receive scholarships or loans from the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK).
Loans and Scholarships
The main difference between a loan and a scholarship is repayment. Scholarships do not need to be paid back, while loans must be repaid in installments after a certain period. Students who study abroad and receive loans get payments during their education and begin repayment some time after graduation. Students who receive scholarships while studying abroad receive support throughout their education and are not required to repay it.
When repayment time comes for students who received loans while studying abroad, some accommodations are provided. Interest rates are calculated at low levels and repayments are divided into installments, helping borrowers avoid financial difficulty during repayment.
Applications are accepted each year within specific dates; you cannot apply for a scholarship or loan outside these periods. The required documents and information can change from year to year. By logging into the system, you can see the current requirements for that year.
How to Check Overseas Loan-Scholarship Status
We live in the internet age, so many procedures can be completed online in a few steps. Overseas loan-scholarship inquiries are among the transactions that can be done easily online. These inquiries are carried out through KYK’s official website and the system will ask you for certain information.
To perform the overseas loan-scholarship inquiry, first click the link provided at the end of this article. After clicking the link, you will see a page similar to the one below.

The basic information requested on the overseas loan-scholarship inquiry page is as follows:
- National ID number (T.C. identification).
- Family sequence number (aile sıra no).
- Volume number (cilt no).
- Sequence number (sıra no).
These are the details required during the overseas loan-scholarship inquiry. After entering this information accurately into the specified fields, you must also enter the security code correctly. Then click the “Search” button to complete the inquiry.
That is how overseas loan-scholarship inquiries are done. As noted above, applications for loans and scholarships are accepted during specific periods each year. For overseas loan-scholarship applications, students need an e-Government (e-Devlet) password. If you do not have an e-Government password, you can obtain one at any PTT branch in Turkey, or from consular services or embassies if you are abroad. During the application period, you can submit your scholarship or loan application through the system. Make sure the information you provide is accurate, since mistakes can lead to negative outcomes.
Loan and scholarship amounts for students abroad vary by country. Therefore, the payment you receive depends on the economy of the country where you study. On the Credit and Dormitories Institution’s website, you can find lists showing the amounts provided to each country. For example, the amount given to an undergraduate or associate-degree student studying in the United States is 727 TL. For master’s level students it is 1,454 TL, and for doctoral students it is 2,181 TL.
