Check Vehicle Plate Info Online: Turkey Plate Lookup

With advancing technology, many inquiry processes can now be completed online. This eliminates the need to visit institutions in person and helps prevent crowding at service centers. Traffic plate inquiry is one of these useful online services.

When buying a vehicle, the most important considerations are the car’s condition and price. For used cars, the license plate is also crucial. This is because a used vehicle may have unpaid fines or debts tied to its plate. Such issues can create problems during the sale or purchase process at the notary.

For this reason, it is wise to perform a traffic plate inquiry before buying or selling a vehicle. Traffic plate checks are helpful not only when purchasing a second-hand car but also in many other situations.

You can perform many online checks using a vehicle’s plate. Some common queries include:

  • Debt inquiry by plate: You can check outstanding debts related to a vehicle using the registration date, the plate number, and your national ID number.
  • Inspection (vehicle test) inquiry by plate: TÜVTÜRK inspection status can be checked easily with the plate number.
  • OGS debt inquiry by plate: OGS (automatic toll collection) debts can be queried with the plate number.
  • HGS passage violation inquiry by plate: HGS (fast toll collection) violations can be checked using only the plate number.
  • Traffic insurance inquiry by plate: Information about compulsory traffic insurance can be obtained using your national ID number and the vehicle plate.

There are two main ways to perform a traffic plate inquiry: through the General Directorate of Security (Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü) website and via the e-Government (e-Devlet) system. Below we outline how to use each method.

Information you can obtain from a traffic plate inquiry includes:

  • Vehicle make and model.
  • Registration office.
  • Vehicle color.
  • Date of the ownership document.
  • Vehicle type.

In addition to these details, if you are checking a used vehicle, the inquiry can reveal whether the car is reported stolen. It can also indicate whether there are any restrictions or legal prohibitions associated with the vehicle’s ownership.
