What Is KYK Loan Debt?
A KYK payment refers to amounts related to services provided to students during their higher education. In this context, the term KYK debt covers both loan and dormitory charges. Students may stay in dormitories managed by KYK during their studies.
While residing in these dormitories, students are charged a monthly dorm fee. Students who receive loan support and use the bank cards provided for purchases must pay at least the minimum required installment each month based on their card usage.
In addition, if a student has received an education loan, they are required to repay the amount received during their study period through the designated payment channels.
What Is KYK Dormitory Debt?
KYK dormitory debt is the fee charged for accommodation provided to students who study in cities other than their place of residence. Dormitory charges are billed monthly for the duration of the student’s stay, and the payment deadline for dorm fees is the last day of each month.
What Is a KYK Scholarship?
The KYK scholarship is a non-repayable financial support provided by the General Directorate of Credit and Dormitories (KYK) to students in higher education who need financial assistance.
Scholarships are awarded following application and evaluation and are paid monthly during the normal duration of the recipient’s education. The list of students who qualify for KYK scholarships is announced by the institution.
When Is KYK Debt Paid?
Repayment of KYK education loans begins two years after the end of the standard education period; payments start in the month when the education period finishes. Loan repayments are made monthly, and the minimum monthly payment is equal to the amount of the monthly loan received.
The upper limit for loan repayments is set according to the borrower’s financial capacity. Consequently, there is no single standard start date for KYK loan repayments; each person’s repayment schedule depends on when they received the loan.
Students who continue their education in graduate programs after completing an undergraduate degree can benefit from loan support again and will generally begin repayments one year after their graduate education ends.
Who Is Eligible for KYK Loans and Scholarships?
The following categories of students may be eligible for loan or scholarship support:
- Undergraduate students
- Associate degree students
- Graduate students (master’s and doctoral)
- Students who transition directly from a 2-year program to a 4-year program without interruption
- Students enrolled in evening or second-shift programs
- Open education (distance learning) students
The institution determines which students receive loan and scholarship support. Loans are generally available without extra selection criteria, while scholarships are awarded based on priority criteria and academic merit.
Some important priority criteria include:
- Children of martyrs and veterans
- Students who completed secondary and high school education in state care institutions
- Students with 40% or greater disability
- Orphans (students whose parents are deceased)
- Students who rank in the top 100 of national exams
- Amateur national athletes
- Students from Darüşşafaka
Students cannot receive both a loan and a scholarship at the same time. If scholarship or loan recipients fail academically, the institution may cancel their financial support.
