How Long Does SGK Coverage Continue After Leaving a Job?

Validity of SGK after leaving a job continues for 3 months. A person who leaves employment remains covered by SGK for medical services during this 3-month period. While the insured status is retained in the records for 10 days, state and private hospital services can be used under SGK coverage for the full three months.

What is the requirement to continue SGK after leaving a job?

A person who is dismissed or who resigns with their consent will continue to benefit from health services under SGK if they have paid uninterrupted premiums for at least 90 days within the year prior to their termination date. Under this condition, the individual remains eligible for the same health services for an additional three months.

In addition, the employer must submit the termination notice to the SGK electronically. If this notice is not transmitted, the employer may face penalties and the person’s three-month period of SGK coverage can be affected.

How is the termination notice submitted?

The steps to submit a termination notice are as follows:

  • Access the SGK registration portal via the appropriate online address.
  • On the login screen enter the username, system password, workplace password and the security code shown, then click the “login” button.
  • On the next screen select the “Submit workplace termination notice” option.
  • Upload the employer-prepared termination document in the window that opens and click the “Send” button.

After these steps the worker’s termination is reported to SGK. The institution then updates the coverage records and, if the conditions are met, the person retains the right to health services for the remaining three-month period.

Do spouse and children continue to benefit from health coverage?

The spouse and dependent children of a worker who has left employment continue to benefit from SGK-covered health services for 100 days. If the spouse is not employed and not insured independently, they can receive treatment at state hospitals under SGK coverage for 100 days. Children under the age of 20 also retain the right to examinations and treatment during this 100-day period.

What services are available under SGK after leaving a job?

During the SGK validity period after leaving employment, the following benefits are available:

  • SGK-covered treatment at private hospitals for up to 3 months,
  • Treatment at state hospitals under SGK for up to 3 months,
  • Continuity of outpatient examination and pharmacy services under SGK for the 3-month period,

Under these conditions, SGK support continues for the specified duration.
