After TÜİK published the inflation figures, new reports emerged about tax increases for 2018. It is known that taxes, fees and fines were raised by 14.47% for 2018. With this development, people began to ask: how much is the 2018 motor vehicle tax? Like other taxes, the motor vehicle tax was also increased. Early statements from the Finance Ministry mentioned a possible increase of around 40% for the motor vehicle tax, which sparked debate. Ultimately, the increase was set at 25%.
The question “How much is the 2018 motor vehicle tax?” was answered personally by Finance Minister Naci Ağbal. He stated that the planned increase was reduced from 40% to 25%, and that adjustments were made according to engine displacement. After the increase, motor vehicle tax amounts changed for many vehicle categories. The primary criterion for the new rates is engine displacement. Here are the updated 2018 motor vehicle tax amounts by engine size:
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Under 1300 CC
For 2018, cars with engine displacement up to 1,300 cc and aged between 1 and 3 years are subject to a motor vehicle tax of 743 lira.
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Between 1301 and 1600 CC
Following the recent increase, vehicles with engine displacement between 1,301 and 1,600 cc and aged 1 to 3 years have a tax set at 1,294 lira.
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Between 1601 and 1800 CC
With the 2018 adjustment, vehicles with engine sizes between 1,601 and 1,800 cc and aged 1 to 3 years are now taxed at 2,284 lira.
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Between 1801 and 2000 CC
For 2018, cars with engine displacement from 1,801 to 2,000 cc and aged 1 to 3 years have a new tax amount of 3,598 lira.
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Between 2001 and 2500 CC
According to the 2018 price list, vehicles with engine sizes between 2,001 and 2,500 cc and aged 1 to 3 years are taxed 5,396 lira.
Motor Vehicle Tax for Vehicles Between 2501 and 3000 CC
After the latest increases, vehicles with engine displacement between 2,501 and 3,000 cc and aged 1 to 3 years are subject to a tax of 7,524 lira for 2018.
Before answering “How much is the 2018 motor vehicle tax?” it is important to consider the inflation figures released by TÜİK at the end of 2017. Inflation is the main criterion used to determine the motor vehicle tax for 2018. Because inflation came in higher than expected, the motor vehicle tax received a larger increase than might otherwise have been applied. Initially a 40% increase was discussed, but that rate was later reduced to 25%.
