How to Check Your Dowry Allowance Online via E-Devlet

To check eligibility for dowry assistance (çeyiz parası) via the e-Government (E-Devlet) system, you must first confirm whether you have the right to receive this benefit. This assistance is provided to daughters who receive orphan’s pension because they lost their mother or father. Only those who receive orphan’s pension can perform the E-Devlet dowry inquiry.

When using E-Devlet, you need your personal E-Devlet password. With this password you can access your own account and perform transactions without entering additional personal data.

After logging in to E-Devlet, you can either search for “çeyiz parası” in the search bar or access the “personal payments” (şahıs ödeme) section to check your status. The personal payments area lists various debts and benefits, making it easy to see whether any support has been recorded for you.

If you have never used the E-Devlet service before, you must obtain a password from PTT. The password is delivered in a sealed envelope and must be changed on first use for security reasons.

This secure password used across E-Devlet ensures safe processing of queries and also helps you find the appropriate channels to apply for benefits when needed.

Where Can Dowry Assistance Be Checked?

Dowry inquiries can be made through the E-Devlet system or alternatively by calling the ALO 170 hotline.

ALO 170 is a service line managed by SGK that allows citizens to follow up on the services and transactions performed by SGK units. In addition to inquiries, you can use this line to submit requests, suggestions, and complaints.

To use the phone line, callers must provide their Turkish ID number (T.C. identity number). Identity verification steps are followed to confirm the request is made by the person in question, so inquiries cannot be completed using only a T.C. number without additional verification.

If you prefer face-to-face communication, you can visit SGK provincial or district directorates. With identity verification, these units can confirm whether you are eligible for dowry assistance.

In every location where you check for dowry assistance, make sure your identity information is accurate and complete. Public institutions take information security seriously and may require presentation of ID for in-person applications.

E-Devlet and ALO 170 inquiries can only be made for the person concerned. It is not possible to query another person’s benefits from your personal account. E-Devlet matches and displays data only for the authenticated individual.

Who Is Eligible for Dowry Assistance?

Eligibility for dowry assistance depends on the following conditions:

  • The applicant must be considered an orphan because their mother or father has passed away.
  • The application must be submitted personally by the person who will receive the benefit. Failure to apply personally may result in loss of rights.
  • No dowry assistance is paid if more than 5 years have passed since the marriage.
  • The benefit is granted to those who receive an orphan’s pension (yetim aylığı). Persons who have lost eligibility for orphan’s pension cannot receive dowry assistance.
  • Dowry assistance is a support program specifically for daughters.
  • Support is available only to those who receive orphan’s pension from SSK or BAĞ-KUR units.
  • Dowry assistance is provided for the first marriage only. It is not granted for second marriages.

Additionally, the applicant must be a Turkish citizen and within legal marriageable age. Even if other criteria are met, citizenship and legal age are required.

There is no strict upper age limit for dowry assistance. If the applicant declares that it is her first marriage, she can receive the support regardless of age.

How to Apply for Dowry Assistance

Applications for dowry assistance cannot be completed online. Applications are accepted only in person at Social Security Institution (SGK) provincial or district offices.

Bring your identity documents when applying; applications without ID are not accepted. To avoid delays, ensure all required documents are complete at the time of application.

Applications must generally be made by the beneficiary herself. In some specific cases, applications via power of attorney are accepted.

Meeting the eligibility criteria is essential; applications that do not meet the requirements will not be approved and may cause delays or rejection.

Although you can check dowry eligibility via E-Devlet, applications themselves must be submitted in person at the relevant SGK units. ALO 170 can provide information about where to apply and the addresses of nearby SGK offices.

Required Documents for Dowry Application

Documents required for dowry applications include:

  • The applicant’s original ID and a photocopy. If applying by proxy, the proxy documents must be provided.
  • A civil registry document proving marriage, obtainable from the Population Directorate or via E-Devlet.
  • A completed marriage allowance request petition, issued and signed at the SGK office. Filling this form online is not sufficient; signatures must be given at SGK units.

It is important that these documents are officially received by the relevant authorities. Documents are verified both manually and through online checks to ensure authenticity.

While someone else can help prepare documents, the applicant must be present when submitting them since signatures are required to complete the application.

How Much Is the Dowry Assistance?

Dowry amounts vary with annual regulations. As of 2021, the dowry amount was set at 12,000 TL. The dowry is calculated based on two years of orphan’s pension.

For example, a beneficiary receiving 500 TL monthly orphan’s pension would be entitled to 12,000 TL as a two-year lump sum (500 TL × 24 months).

Calculations use the latest two months’ pension amounts, so recent raises or reductions can affect the final dowry amount.

Dowry amounts are determined automatically by the system, not individually negotiated. Payments are computed based on the system’s calculation rules.

Through Which Banks Is Dowry Paid?

Dowry payments are made through state-designated Ziraat Bank branches. You can collect the amount at any Ziraat Bank branch.

Payments must be collected by the beneficiary in person with ID; banks will not allow withdrawals by third parties even if they are close relatives.

Funds cannot be transferred to accounts in other banks before collection. You must visit a Ziraat Bank branch to receive the payment, after which you may choose to transfer the funds to another account.

Payments are not available via internet banking or ATMs; they must be collected at branches. Any branch can process the payment—there is no branch-specific restriction.

Can Dowry and Orphan’s Pension Be Received Together?

Dowry and orphan’s pension cannot be received simultaneously. Once the dowry is paid, orphan’s pension stops due to marriage. Therefore, regardless of whether dowry is claimed, the pension is discontinued after marriage.

The dowry is essentially a lump-sum payment equal to two years of orphan’s pension. After this lump sum is paid, no monthly pension is provided during that period.

If the marriage ends within two years, the beneficiary can reapply for the orphan’s pension. For marriages lasting longer than two years, monthly pension payments are not reinstated. If a person remarries later, dowry cannot be received again; it is a one-time entitlement.

If someone who received dowry later reapplies for orphan’s pension after divorce, they must submit complete divorce documentation for evaluation and possible pension reactivation.

Is the Dowry Repaid?

There is no repayment requirement for dowry. It is considered a lump-sum payment of two years’ orphan’s pension and is not reclaimed upon divorce.

However, the timing of divorce affects entitlement: dowry must be applied for within five years following marriage; if the applicant divorced before applying, they cannot receive dowry. The support is a non-repayable, one-time state benefit, but an application is required to receive it.

The system calculates entitlements automatically based on the beneficiary’s pension amounts to ensure fair distribution. The dowry is granted only once; a second marriage does not create a new entitlement.

E-Devlet inquiries are possible only if the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. Those who meet the conditions and declare the marriage during application can receive positive responses in their application checks.

When you query through E-Devlet, you do not need to provide extra information: the system already contains your personal data based on your T.C. identity number used at login. No additional details are required for the dowry inquiry.

How to Check Dowry Eligibility by Phone

To check dowry status via ALO 170, call the number and provide the requested information. The phone system does not retain personal records like E-Devlet, so you cannot complete an inquiry using only your T.C. number. Provide the details the operator requests and they will inform you of your dowry status.

Is There an Age Limit to Receive Dowry?

There is no age requirement to receive dowry. The only condition is that it must be the woman’s first marriage. If it is her first marriage, she can receive dowry regardless of her age. The support is granted once as a lump sum. If she divorces later, she may be eligible for orphan’s pension again, but a second marriage does not entitle her to dowry.

Can Someone Other Than the Beneficiary Receive the Payment?

No one other than the beneficiary can collect the dowry. The beneficiary must apply with and present her ID and must go to Ziraat Bank in person to collect the payment. Even first-degree relatives cannot collect the payment on her behalf.

Is Orphan’s Pension Restored After Receiving Dowry?

Orphan’s pension can be restored if the marriage ends within two years and the beneficiary provides divorce documentation. If the marriage lasts longer than two years, the pension cannot be reinstated. Dowry cannot be received more than once.

Is Dowry Repaid?

Dowry payments are not refundable. The benefit is provided even if the marriage is short. Dowry must be applied for within five years of marriage; if the applicant divorced before applying, they are ineligible. The payment is unconditional and non-repayable, but an application is required to receive it.
