KYK Scholarship Application Dates and Deadlines 2024

The General Directorate of Youth and Sports’ Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) provides dormitory, loan, and scholarship assistance to eligible higher education students in need. These supports are administered through KYK, which makes the KYK application dates important for applicants.

KYK Scholarships

Under Law No. 5102 on the Provision of Scholarships/Loans to Higher Education Students, the Credit and Hostels Institution awards scholarships of 400 TL per month for 10 months each academic year to higher education students who lack sufficient financial resources. Eligibility for KYK scholarships includes the following categories of students:

  • Associate degree students (vocational/2-year programs),
  • Bachelor’s degree students (undergraduate),
  • Open education students who are legally prioritized for scholarship consideration,
  • Students who graduated from a two-year associate program and immediately enrolled in the third year of a four-year program via vertical transfer (DGS),
  • Graduate students (Master’s and Doctorate candidates),
  • Students who ranked in the top 100 in any score type based on raw scores in the national university entrance exam (ÖSYM),
  • Students holding an Amateur National Athlete certificate.

Students Ineligible for KYK Scholarships

  • Students who have previously received a scholarship or study loan from KYK,
  • Students who have a one-year educational loss in terms of institutional registration dates,
  • Non-Turkish citizens,
  • Students enrolled in police academies and military schools,
  • Graduate students who are studying in a preparatory year,
  • Students enrolled in extended study periods,
  • Students who have provided false information or misrepresentation.

KYK Loans

In addition to scholarships for students in financial need, KYK offers repayable student loans to support the social development of higher education students.

Who Can Apply for KYK Loans

  • Associate degree students,
  • Bachelor’s degree students,
  • Open education students who have priority status for financial support,
  • Students who graduated from a two-year associate program and immediately enrolled in a four-year bachelor program via vertical transfer (DGS),
  • Graduate students (Master’s and Doctorate candidates).

Students Ineligible for KYK Loans

  • Students who have already graduated from a higher education institution (except for those progressing via vertical transfer or pursuing master/doctorate degrees),
  • Students in extended enrollment periods (those who have prolonged their studies beyond the standard duration),
  • Associate graduates who started adaptation programs by interrupting their studies for reasons other than health,
  • Students who provided false statements,
  • Students who have been unsuccessful for more than one academic year at their registered institution at the time of loan application,
  • Students who previously received a scholarship or loan from KYK,
  • Foreign nationals,
  • Students in adaptation programs to transition from associate to bachelor’s programs,
  • Students permanently expelled from KYK dormitories,
  • Students who have been convicted by final judgment.

The amount of a student loan debt is calculated by taking the total loan amount received from KYK during the student’s regular education period and applying the increases reflected in the Domestic Producer Price Index published by the Turkish Statistical Institute, with the adjusted amount added to determine the final debt.

KYK Scholarship and Loan Applications

Scholarship and loan applications are accepted together by KYK. Application periods vary by year; for example, the application period for assistance distributed in January 2017 ended on October 12, 2016. Applications are typically submitted online by completing the KYK application form on the institution’s official website.

KYK Dormitories

The Credit and Hostels Institution operates dormitories in all 81 provinces of the country to support students in need. Admission to these dormitories requires meeting specific conditions, and applications are accepted during designated periods.

KYK Dormitory Applications

First-year students who have gained admission to a higher education program after taking the national placement examination and returning preparatory or first-year students, as well as current students applying for hostel placement, submit their dormitory applications through the e-Government portal after the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) announces placement results.

For example, first-term applications for the 2016–2017 academic year were accepted starting August 22, 2016, and students who secured placement, along with waiting list candidates, were announced on the institution’s website.

Students newly placed in higher education programs through vertical transfer examinations and students from closed Military Higher Education Institutions were able to apply for dormitory placement via e-Government between October 24 and October 28, 2016.
