Provisions concerning the conversion of contracted research assistants under the Law on Amendments to the Higher Education Law and Some Other Laws were published in the Official Gazette and became effective.
According to the law, regulations were also made to allow the employment of specialists and assistant specialists at the Higher Education Quality Board. Under this scope, the board may recruit specialists and assistant specialists. The long-awaited regulation for research assistants was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

The Law on Amendments to the Higher Education Law and Some Other Laws was published in the Official Gazette and came into effect. The law provides solutions to many important issues. Following the amendments, research assistants employed under Article 50/d at higher education institutions can be transferred to positions under Article 33/a.
Except for those undergoing or completing specialty training in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine; research assistants who are pursuing or have completed a thesis-based master’s, a doctorate, or a proficiency in arts program may be appointed to research assistant posts by the university where their positions are located, provided they apply within six months.
AMENDMENTS TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION LAW
Following the amendment to the Higher Education Law, disciplinary investigations will begin immediately upon learning of the incident subject to discipline. Investigations must be concluded within 30 days at the latest. In addition, if a disciplinary sanction is not imposed within two years from the date the sanctionable act was committed, the authority to impose that disciplinary sanction will expire due to the statute of limitations.
The amendment also includes several university name changes: Beykent University will be named Istanbul Beykent University, Alanya Hamdullah Emin Paşa University will be named Alanya University. Antalya AKEV University will be renamed Antalya Belek University, and Nişantaşı University will be renamed Istanbul Nişantaşı University.
