Turkish Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM)

The Measurement, Selection and Placement Center, commonly known by its Turkish acronym ÖSYM, is a government agency established in 1974 that administers entrance examinations for higher education, ranks successful candidates, and places them in appropriate institutions. Founded on 22 November 1974 by the Interuniversity Board under Article 52 of Law No. 1750 on Universities, it initially operated as the Interuniversity Student Selection and Placement Center (ÜSYM). In 1981 it was attached to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and renamed ÖSYM. Within the framework determined by YÖK, ÖSYM’s mission is to prepare and administer examinations for admission to higher education institutions and to place students into suitable programs based on their preferences and exam results.
