What Is a Vehicle Registration Certificate?

Every vehicle must have certain documents. As you know, these are the documents required for operating a vehicle. First and foremost, your vehicle must pass a periodic inspection regularly. Each vehicle undergoes this inspection every year. If you want your vehicle to remain reliable for many years, you should ensure this inspection is completed. After the inspection, each vehicle owner receives a certificate proving the vehicle has no issues. Vehicles with such a clean certificate are permitted to drive on public roads. However, vehicles that have even minor problems, which make them unfit for traffic, must not be driven. This certificate is commonly called the traffic document. Detailed information about where and how to obtain this document is provided below.

What Is the Traffic Document Used For and Where Is It Obtained?

Each year, the General Directorate of Security verifies whether vehicles on the road are fit for traffic. For this reason, a traffic document is required for every vehicle. The traffic document must be renewed annually because it informs police officers whether the vehicle has any problems. Although it is prohibited and dangerous, some drivers still operate vehicles without a valid traffic document. Therefore, checks are conducted frequently. All vehicle owners are required to renew their traffic document every year. If license plates are worn or damaged, they should be replaced. To renew the traffic document, the Vehicle Traffic Registration and Application Form must be completed first. All the required items should be gathered by the time of the vehicle inspection. After that, the traffic document can be renewed even within a single day.

Vehicle owners whose traffic document has expired or who have recently purchased a vehicle and not yet obtained its traffic document must not drive the vehicle. If such vehicles are driven on public roads, authorities may impound the vehicle. Vehicle owners also receive a fine for traffic violations and are asked to pay outstanding fines promptly. Then owners must go to the impound lot to retrieve their vehicles, and an additional fee is charged for releasing the vehicle. Instead of dealing with this hassle and expense, it is best to obtain and renew your traffic document on time.

How Is the Traffic Document Renewed?

  1. To renew the traffic document, you will need the Vehicle Traffic Registration and Application Form. You can obtain this form from the traffic registration office.
  2. Vehicles with expired inspection periods must undergo the inspection. This requirement applies especially for worn or outdated documents.
  3. The original registration document if it is worn, expired, or damaged.
  4. The certificate issued by officials after the inspection.

Once you have these documents, you can go in person to the Traffic Registration Branch Directorate and complete the renewal process in a short time.
