When will the April 2020 Short-Time Work and Cash Support Payments Be Made? For April 2020 short-time working allowance applications, the payment dates have been determined. For workers sent on unpaid leave by their employers due to the coronavirus, daily payments of 39 TL are scheduled to be made on Friday, May 8, 2020. In addition, cash support payments intended for those on short-time working or unpaid leave are starting. Short-time work allowances will begin tomorrow. Citizens entitled to March payments who have not yet received them will also be able to receive their rights tomorrow. The specified amounts are expected to be transferred to accounts tomorrow.

To qualify for the short-time working allowance, applicants must meet the following conditions: having a total of 450 days of premium payments within the last three years and having uninterrupted premium payments for the last 60 days. Also, applications for short-time working allowance will rely on the employer’s declaration regarding their employees.

In a related statement, the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk said that, to date, 300,000 companies and 3.2 million employees have applied for short-time working allowance. She added that short-time working payments are made from the 8th day after production stops following the day the application is submitted, and noted that the May short-time working allowance will be paid on June 5, 2020.

Who will benefit from the short-time working allowance? The citizens eligible for the short-time working allowance and cash support are as follows:

  • Employees who were sent on unpaid leave by their employers as of March 15, 2020, are eligible for cash support payments.
  • Citizens who do not meet the unemployment benefit requirements as of March 15, 2020, and therefore cannot receive unemployment pay will also be eligible for cash support payments.

The daily payment of 39.24 TL corresponds to a monthly amount of 1,177 TL. These payments will be made on Friday, May 8, 2020. The monthly cash support payment of 1,177 TL will be paid as 1,168 TL after deducting 8.93 TL for stamp tax. Cash support payments will cover unpaid or unemployed periods from April 17, the date the law took effect, through July 17, and will be deposited into accounts accordingly. For those who spent the entire month of April or were on unpaid leave for the whole month, a 14-day payment of 545 TL will be made.

Employers must submit applications for their employees who were placed on unpaid leave through the SGK employer system in order for those employees to benefit from the cash support payments. Unemployed individuals can apply via the İŞKUR website. Citizens who are not eligible for unemployment benefits will receive direct cash support.
