The education allowance for the 2023–2024 school year has been set at 1,400 TL. This payment is provided to eligible teachers to help cover students’ stationery and classroom supply needs.
The education allowance is awarded annually and its terms are determined in collective bargaining agreements. Teachers incur certain expenses while carrying out their duties during the school year, and the Ministry of National Education provides support to teachers who need to make purchases for students.
What Is the Education Allowance?
The education allowance is a payment made to teachers. The allowance amount increased in 2023 compared with the 2022 payment. Often referred to as the preparation allowance for the school year, this money is intended to cover stationery and other classroom supplies such as paper, ink cartridges, and whiteboard markers.
Because stationery prices have risen significantly, teachers have requested increases in the allowance. The amount of the education allowance varies by year and is renegotiated in collective bargaining; the next adjustment will occur in the 2024–2025 bargaining period.
Who Is Eligible for the Education Allowance?
The education allowance is available to teachers who are actively working in teaching roles. Public employees eligible for the allowance include:
- Primary school teachers
- School principals
- Assistant school principals
- Teachers and administrators working in prison schools
- Education specialists and assistant specialists
Teachers do not need to apply to receive the allowance. The payment is deposited directly into the bank account where their salary is paid.
How Much Is the 2023 Education Allowance?
The 2023 education allowance is 1,400 TL. This amount is provided to teachers to cover stationery and supply costs. Payments are made before the end of the first semester, typically in September or October, so teachers can meet needs at the start of the term.
| YEARS | EDUCATION ALLOWANCE AMOUNT |
| 2014 | 850 TL |
| 2016 | 1000 TL |
| 2018 | 1130 TL |
| 2020 | 1210 TL |
| 2023 | 1400 TL |
The allowance is used to address material shortages in classrooms. The 2023–2024 education allowance has been set at 1,400 TL and will be paid into teachers’ salary accounts without the need for an application.
When Are Education Allowances Paid?
There is no single fixed date for allowance payments, but disbursements generally begin at the end of September and are completed by the end of October. Payments appear in the teacher’s payroll or bank account, where the exact amount can be verified.
How to Check the Education Allowance
Teachers do not need to apply to receive the education allowance; the Ministry of National Education transfers payments directly. To check the payment on your payroll, you can access the e-Government portal and view the e-payroll service.
- Visit the official e-Government portal and click “Sign In.”
- Enter your national ID number on the login screen.
- Enter your e-Government password.
- Click “Sign In” to access the system.

Search for “Bordro” (Payroll) and use the “Ministry of Treasury and Finance e-Payroll service” to view records. Select the year “2023” and then check the month (September first; if no payment appears, check October). After making your selections, click “Query” to view the details.

Once all choices are made, press “Query” to display the payroll entry for the education allowance.
Reasons for Deduction or Ineligibility
The primary reason for a deduction or loss of eligibility for the education allowance is the end of a person’s teaching service. Individuals who resign, are dismissed from teaching, retire, or who are reassigned within the Ministry of National Education to a non-teaching position are not eligible for the payment. It is expected that the education allowance amount for future years may be increased.
