Those who violate the curfew face a 3,150 TL fine. As the coronavirus pandemic continues worldwide, new measures are being added regularly to minimize harm. In Turkey, an additional restriction has been implemented today as part of the fight against COVID-19.
According to the latest announcement from the Ministry of Interior, a curfew has been imposed for citizens aged 65 and over. Alongside this, people with chronic illnesses have been subject to restrictions on going outside. The Ministry stated that administrative fines will be applied to those who fail to comply with the decision.
With the Ministry of Interior’s directive, from today onward a curfew applies to all citizens aged 65 and older and to those with chronic health conditions. To ensure that their needs are met without leaving home, these citizens can call ALO 112, 155 or 156 to request assistance.
Where Can Citizens Aged 65 and Over Request Help if Needed?
In the announcement from the Ministry of Interior, it was stated that citizens aged 65 and over and people with chronic illnesses are restricted from leaving their residences and from using open areas such as parks and gardens. Following this decision, the Governor of Erzincan noted on social media that violations of the restriction will be subject to criminal complaint under Article 195 of the Turkish Penal Code and an administrative fine of 3,150 TL.
After these measures take effect, the phone numbers and service units set up to provide support and meet needs are detailed below.
A dedicated support group will be formed to assist citizens aged 65 and over who live alone, lack nearby relatives who can help, or have chronic illnesses, so they do not suffer hardship. The Vefa Social Support Group will be established to provide for their basic needs.
The Vefa Social Support Group will include representatives from public institutions and organizations designated by provincial and district police chiefs, provincial and district gendarmerie commanders, governors and district governors, as well as local government representatives, AFAD, the Turkish Red Crescent and necessary civil society organizations.
To prevent citizens aged 65 and over and those with chronic illnesses from leaving their homes, they can report their needs by calling ALO 112, 155 or 156. Sufficient law enforcement personnel, public servants, teams and vehicles will be assigned to meet reported needs and to deliver necessary assistance.
