Can Traffic Fines Be Paid in Installments?

It is possible to pay traffic fines in installments. Fines can be split into up to four installments within one year, but interest is added for installment payments. To arrange installment payments, you must apply to the tax office within one month of the notification date of the fine.

Applications must be made in person by the fined individual. After approval, the first installment is paid upfront, and the remaining amount is divided into four equal installments. The installment plan increases the fine with a monthly interest rate of 5%.

Vehicle Registration Date for Traffic Fines

Vehicle registration date is important when paying fines online. You must enter this information to check whether the vehicle has any registered debts. For used vehicles, the registration date is the sale date listed on the notarized contract or the date shown on the vehicle registration document. For new vehicles, the registration date is the date on the vehicle registration document, which indicates when the vehicle was first allowed on the road. Knowing the registration date is necessary for online payments.

Paying Traffic Fines at the Tax Office

To complete payment at a tax office, you must apply to the tax office with the traffic fine. Payments cannot be made solely with an ID card; required documents must be presented. When you provide the documents, the debt can be paid in cash.

Other options besides the tax office

  • Traffic fines can be paid through partner banks either at branches or via mobile banking.
  • You can pay traffic fines at PTT branches; PTT accepts cash payments for fines.
  • Online payments are available through the GİB system.

How to Check Fines by Plate Number

Checking fines by plate number helps you see fines issued against your vehicle. This inquiry shows fines registered to the vehicle’s plate within the last year. To perform a plate-based inquiry, first log into the e-Devlet system.

If you do not have an e-Devlet password, you can obtain one at the nearest PTT branch. After logging in, type “plate-based fine inquiry” into the search box and run the search. The resulting page will display fines associated with the plate. Note that this page may list fines that have already been paid for information purposes; if a fine still appears after payment, do not be alarmed as the record may not yet be updated.

Where to Pay Overdue Traffic Fines

Overdue traffic fines can be paid online via the GİB system. However, overdue fines are not eligible for installment plans. You can check overdue fines through the e-Devlet system and pay them online through the Revenue Administration, including any accrued late interest.

To pay overdue traffic fines:

  • Pay overdue fines at PTT branches by presenting the traffic fine. Overdue debts at PTT are paid only by the person the fine was issued to.
  • Banks can also process overdue traffic fine payments. Use banks that have agreements with the Revenue Administration for easy payment.
  • Tax offices accept overdue traffic fine payments. At tax offices, different persons can also pay fines issued to a plate; payment is not limited to the person who received the fine.
