You can easily check and cancel association membership through e-Devlet. People who join associations usually do so with a specific purpose in mind and choose organizations that match their interests.
Associations organize activities periodically so members can come together and work toward shared goals. They also host social and networking events where people meet and collaborate around common causes.
In some cases, you may be registered as a member without your knowledge. To prevent this, it is wise to periodically perform an e-Devlet association membership check and cancellation.
E-DEVLET ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP CHECK
To perform an e-Devlet association membership check, you need to log in with your identity number and password. You can obtain your e-Devlet password from PTT branches, where it is delivered to you in a sealed envelope.
You can also access e-Devlet without a password using electronic signature or mobile signature.
After entering e-Devlet, click the “Giriş Yap” (Sign In) option on the right side. This will bring up the password screen.

If you are not a member of any association, you will see a screen like the one shown above. The information displayed typically includes:
- Association membership details
- Membership information for association bodies
- Founding member information
If you are registered as a member, you can initiate cancellation from this section.
How to Leave an Association
To leave an association, you can submit a resignation. A member has the unilateral right to terminate their membership at any time; there is no restriction preventing them from leaving.
- Resignation from Association Membership
Members who wish to resign should apply to the authority designated by the association. If there is no specific unit handling resignations, a resignation letter can be submitted to the board of directors. Resignations cannot be refused; the right to resign is protected by the constitution.
You do not have to provide a reason to leave an association, so you are free to join and leave organizations as you choose.
- Expulsion from Association Membership
Expulsion occurs when the association deems it appropriate. Associations must have a justified reason to expel a member and must give the member a chance to present a defense. Expulsion decisions are typically made by the general assembly, though other bodies can be authorized for this purpose.
Members can appeal expulsions. If a member proves the decision was unjust, they may regain membership. Appeals are first made within the association; if unresolved, a lawsuit can be filed within one month.
Canceling Association Membership via e-Devlet
You can cancel your association membership through e-Devlet. To do this, go to the “Association Membership Check and Cancellation” section and follow the steps to complete the cancellation.
Retiree Association Membership Cancellation
Canceling membership in retiree associations can also be handled through e-Devlet. Organizations such as the Turkey Retirees Association have branches nationwide, and you can follow the standard membership cancellation procedures to leave.
You may also resign in person by submitting a written resignation to the association’s board. Performing regular association membership checks and cancellations on e-Devlet helps you discover and cancel any memberships you were unaware of. If you find yourself registered without consent, you can pursue legal remedies.
What Is Association Membership?
Association membership refers to natural or legal persons who are registered with an association. Members may have certain duties and responsibilities, and they can contribute to the association simply as members. Associations are founded for many different purposes.
There are associations for causes like animal protection, preventing child abuse, or promoting national cinema, as well as groups that bring together people from the same region or fans of the same sports team.
Members must act in accordance with the association’s objectives. Rules and obligations are clearly outlined in the association’s bylaws, and members who violate them may face expulsion.
- What Is an Association?
An association is an organization established for a specific purpose. Its members can be natural or legal persons, and all members are officially registered. An association must be founded by at least seven members. There is no legal upper limit on membership, though an association may set a cap in its bylaws.
Membership is constituted by a contract between the association and the member. If no fixed term is specified, membership continues indefinitely; a time limit can be included in the membership agreement if desired.
Obligations between members and the association are mutual. Members must follow the conditions set in the bylaws, and the association must uphold members’ rights and responsibilities.
Associations may have different membership categories. Apart from honorary members, members generally share the same status. Honorary members are often public figures chosen to promote the association.
Associations can define additional membership types in their bylaws, provided these distinctions are not discriminatory.
- What Are the Conditions for Association Membership?
One key requirement for membership is legal capacity. Minors, those legally restricted, and persons lacking discernment cannot be members, although children can join associations specifically for them.
Associations also set age criteria: those over 12 can be members, while founders must generally be at least 15. Public servants may face restrictions regarding membership and founding roles.
- How Much Is the Association Membership Fee?
Membership fees are determined by each association and are payable by all members. Paying dues regularly is one of a member’s obligations to the association.
- What Happens If Membership Fees Are Not Paid?
Failure to pay membership fees can lead to termination of membership. Many bylaws include provisions that allow for removing members who do not fulfill their financial obligations, and membership can be ended on that basis.
- Do Association Members Earn Money?
Members can receive income related to association activities. Associations may accept donations and collect contributions. They can also establish commercial enterprises to support their operations. Members, provided they are not public officials, may earn income and receive allowances or reimbursements.
- Do Associations Pay Taxes?
Associations do not pay corporate tax in general. However, if an association owns a commercial enterprise, that entity is subject to taxation. Economic enterprises affiliated with associations must pay corporate tax.
Associations recognized as serving the public interest may be exempt from income, VAT, property, and stamp taxes.
- Do Associations Receive Government Support?
Associations can receive government support for approved projects. Each year, associations can submit project proposals during designated application periods. Financial assistance is provided by the Ministry of Interior, which sets eligible project topics.
