Bağ-Kur current period payment refers to the process Bağ-Kur members use to pay their insurance contributions. Contribution payments are an essential, regular obligation for Bağ-Kur affiliates and citizens covered by other social security institutions. Before explaining how to make the Bağ-Kur current period payment, it helps to understand the social security system operating in our country. A social state is responsible for providing certain services to its citizens, and social security is one of those mandatory services. Every citizen has the right to benefit from the social security services provided by the state. In our system, social security services are delivered through several institutions that serve different segments of the population according to specific criteria. These institutions are known as the Retirement Fund (Emekli Sandığı), Social Insurance Institution (Sosyal Sigortalar Kurumu, SSK) and Bağ-Kur. Emekli Sandığı covers public servants, SSK covers employees in the private sector, and Bağ-Kur covers self-employed individuals, craftsmen, tradespeople and those not employed by an employer. In short, you receive benefits through the institution that corresponds to your type of work.
The social security services provided by Emekli Sandığı, SSK and Bağ-Kur are funded through contribution payments. The Bağ-Kur current period payment is therefore one of the procedures for paying these contributions. When contributions are paid regularly, members of any of these systems continue to benefit from social security without interruption. If contribution payments fall behind, members risk losing access to benefits and accumulating contribution debt with interest. That is why regular payment of contributions is important. How contributions are collected varies by institution. For example, Emekli Sandığı members—public employees—have their contributions handled automatically while they are employed, and private-sector employees under SSK have contributions paid by their employer. Bağ-Kur members, however, must pay their own contributions because they are self-employed or not working for an employer. Bağ-Kur members include independent professionals, artisans and shopkeepers, and they are responsible for paying their own premiums. Sometimes delays or problems occur, and unpaid contributions accrue debt and interest. To restore normal access to benefits, members must pay outstanding contributions and any accumulated debts. The Bağ-Kur current period payment is one of the payment methods used by Bağ-Kur members. Below we explain how to complete this payment.
How to Make a Bağ-Kur Current Period Payment
Before making current or past-due contribution payments, Bağ-Kur members should perform a debt inquiry. Knowing the exact amount owed makes payment straightforward. Both debt inquiries and payments are now easily completed online, so members no longer need to wait at government offices. Debt inquiries for Bağ-Kur current period payment can be completed through the E-Devlet (e-Government) portal. To use the E-Devlet system for inquiry and payment, users must first obtain an E-Devlet password. This password is issued at PTT branches for a small fee. With that password, users can log in to the portal to check debts and complete Bağ-Kur current period payments.
