Restriction on Going Out for Citizens Aged 65 and Over Is Being Relaxed. A nationwide stay-at-home order for people aged 65 and older had been imposed due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to the latest information, authorities plan to introduce flexibility for this age group. Under the proposed change, people aged 65 and over would be allowed to go out for up to three hours on weekend days. This measure aims to allow seniors to take short walks while complying with mask use and social distancing rules.
The government continues to review decisions taken to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Meetings have reassessed the response and evaluated existing measures. The stay-at-home order for people aged 65 and above was one of the earliest and most notable restrictions. Officials are now considering ways to reduce the psychological strain caused by prolonged confinement at home. In response to public requests, authorities are planning to permit limited outdoor time for seniors on weekends to help address mental and physical well-being concerns.
Supervised Outdoor Time Will Be Introduced
Supervised Outdoor Time Will Be Introduced. According to reports, weekend permits for those aged 65 and over would allow up to three hours outdoors each weekend day. The plan foresees implementing this permission under strict conditions: the three-hour limit, mandatory mask usage, and adherence to social distancing. The decision affects approximately 7.5 million citizens who have been subject to the restriction since March 21, 2020.
In addition, measures are being set for the Ramadan period to prevent crowds, especially after iftar. Governors have been instructed to close streets, squares, and other areas where crowding might occur, when necessary. Authorities will not allow people to gather in designated centers following iftar. After the meeting, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca commented that Turkey’s strict inspections and precautions against the coronavirus will allow gradual relief after Ramadan. However, Minister Koca noted that more substantial easing is unlikely until around mid-June.
