Curfew on Exam Days Announced: What Students and Parents Need to Know

Details of the curfew to be enforced on exam days have been announced. Under a circular sent by the Ministry of Interior to the governorships of all 81 provinces, restrictions to be applied during the LGS and YKS examinations have been determined. A curfew will be in effect on Saturday, June 20, 2020, the day of the LGS exam, between 09:00 and 15:00. For the YKS exams, a curfew will be in place on Saturday, June 27 between 09:30 and 15:00, and on Sunday, June 28, 2020 between 09:30 and 18:30 across all 81 provinces.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a circular to the governorships of 81 provinces regarding measures for the LGS and YKS. The circular, based on recommendations from the Ministry of Health and the Scientific Committee and following directives from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, outlines adjustments made since the emergence of the novel coronavirus. These measures aim to manage risks to public health and public order, maintain social distancing, and control the speed of viral spread. In this context, decisions were taken to ensure that the LGS and YKS examinations are held under conditions that prioritize public health.

What Measures Will Be Taken During the Curfew?

  • To prevent crowding and reduce infection risk during the LGS scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2020, a curfew will be enforced across all 81 provinces from 09:00 to 15:00 on that day.
  • To avoid crowding and reduce infection risk during the YKS exams on June 27–28, 2020, a curfew will be enforced on Saturday, June 27 from 09:30 to 15:00 and on Sunday, June 28 from 09:30 to 18:30 across all 81 provinces.
  • Candidates taking the LGS and YKS who travel to the exam center by public transport may be accompanied by one relative. Candidates arriving by private car may leave the vehicle and be accompanied by the driver plus one relative during the curfew hours.
  • All district and provincial population (registry) offices will remain available to process identity card applications for candidates who need a T.C. identity card to sit for the LGS and YKS.
  • Registry offices will be open until 20:00 on Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19, 2020, prior to the LGS exam.
  • On Saturday, June 20, 2020 — the day of the LGS — registry offices will be open between 07:00 and 13:00.
  • For the YKS, registry offices will be open until 20:00 on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, 2020.
  • On Saturday, June 27, 2020 — the day of the first YKS session — registry offices will be open between 07:00 and 13:00.
  • On Sunday, June 28, 2020 — the day of the second YKS session — registry offices will be open between 07:00 and 16:00.
  • On exam days, municipalities will take all necessary measures to prevent disruptions in urban public transportation for candidates, their companions, and exam staff.
  • The travel restrictions will not apply to citizens who have already purchased intercity public transport tickets for those days.
