Class A2 license can vary depending on whether the vehicle is two-wheeled or three-wheeled. Holders of an A2 license are also permitted to ride motorcycles in the A1 category.
- For two-wheeled motorcycles, the power limit is set at 35 kilowatts and the power-to-weight ratio must be less than 0.2 kW/kg.
- For three-wheeled motorcycles, the power limit is set at 15 kilowatts. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Requirements for Obtaining an A2 License
To obtain an A2 license you must be at least 18 years old. First, you need to register at an approved driving school. Bring your national ID number, proof of education or a student certificate if applicable, a passport-style photo, a health report, and a certificate showing a clean criminal record to the licensing office. If you already hold another driver’s license, bring a copy of that document.
A2 License Training Process
The initial phase of A2 training focuses on familiarizing the candidate with the motorcycle: coordinating hand-eye and throttle/brake controls, balancing while riding, and understanding protective gear. Training also covers different motorcycle types and their components before practical riding sessions begin. The main aim is to build the rider’s experience and confidence in a controlled environment.
Protective Gear – Pre-ride Checks
Riders with an A2 license should wear body-fitting protective clothing to reduce injury risk. Recommended items include close-fitting pants, motorcycle-appropriate boots, and, above all, a properly fitted helmet. Protective gloves and jackets with armor are also encouraged.
A rider who makes routine pre-ride checks reduces the risk of many accidents and ensures a safer journey. Before each ride, inspect fuel level, engine oil, and tire condition for cuts or excessive wear. Check rims, ensure the chain is lubricated, and verify there are no oil leaks. Confirm brake and clutch pads are within limits. Test lights, indicators, horn, and brake lamps to ensure they work correctly. Also check the battery, mirrors, and the tightness of bolts and nuts.
Driver License Penalty Points Inquiry
A2 license holders are subject to traffic penalty points for violations. Since 2016, all new drivers hold a provisional license for two years. If a provisional license holder accumulates 50 penalty points in one year, their provisional license becomes invalid; reaching 75 points can result in the loss of the license. In addition to points, provisional licenses are revoked for offenses such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, or running red lights three times.
The introduction of these rules and the increased volume of applicants to driving schools have encouraged safer, more informed drivers. If a candidate’s license is revoked, they must undergo a psychological assessment (psychotechnical test). Once they receive certification that they are fit, they may reapply to a driving school and attempt to obtain a license again.
Violations That Lead to Provisional License Cancellation and Penalties
A2 license applicants are considered provisional drivers during the initial period. Drivers who wish to check their penalty points can do so through the national e-government portal. Another option is to use the online services provided by the General Directorate of Security. Entering your information on these official portals will allow you to view your current penalty points and related details.
