How will the 2020 LGS exam be held because of the Coronavirus? A confident statement about the LGS was made by the Minister of National Education, Ziya Selçuk. In his remarks the minister said the LGS exam can be held without difficulty. According to the latest information, Minister Selçuk stated that the LGS exam, conducted as part of the High School Entrance System, can be carried out on the scheduled date without hesitation. He emphasized that the exam will not be online and that it can be administered in a way that protects students’ health.
Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk said that for the central LGS exam they do not want to put even a single child at risk. Responding to questions about the LGS during a program, the minister recalled an example from last week where students sat exams outdoors in a stadium on the other side of the world while maintaining social distancing, with five meters between each student. When asked whether an outdoor LGS exam with social distancing could be held, he answered frankly that, of course, it could.
Minister Selçuk Reported Progress on LGS Preparations
Minister Selçuk shared details about preparations for the 2020 LGS planned within the context of the coronavirus. He said they want to hold the centrally administered exam on time if possible, or otherwise as soon as feasible, without undermining students’ motivation. The minister noted that they are reviewing the relevant statistics. He also commented on his participation in the Scientific Board meeting.
“We will evaluate all processes and, in the coming weeks, provided the exam is not online and students’ health is protected, we can take the necessary precautions and carry out the exam without difficulty. We would never want to put even one child at risk. In such an implementation, our first priority is the health of children. Certain arrangements can be made to protect and look after them. We are determining how many classrooms and rows exist across the country, and by seating students at specified intervals we can assess how many students can take the exam in which building or setting. These are the kinds of studies underway. Whatever form the exam takes, we will evaluate that situation. We are open to different and varied approaches. Our package of precautions for students to take an in-person exam is ready,” he said.
