LGS Preference Guide Published

The LGS Preference and Placement Guide for 2020 has been published by the Ministry of National Education on meb.gov.tr. High school preferences under the LGS will be accepted between July 20 and July 29, 2020. According to the ministry, the number of choices allowed for schools that admit students using the LGS central exam score has been increased to 10.

According to the preference and placement guide, the LGS high school preference period begins on Monday, July 20, 2020 and continues until Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 17:00. The guide’s calendar states that registrations for private secondary education institutions and procedures for schools that admit students through talent exams will start on July 16 and end on July 29.

Local Placement Required for All Students

Local placement for all students: All students who took the exam and hold a central exam score, as well as those without, are required to select schools that admit students through local placement. If preferences are not made through the local placement school screens, students will not be given access to the preference screens for schools that admit students based on the central exam score nor for boarding schools. Students can make preferences under three categories: schools that admit students by central exam score, schools that admit students by local placement, and boarding schools.

Students who have completed final registration at private secondary education institutions or at schools that admit students through talent exams are not required to submit preferences. Students who have completed registration at private institutions will not receive an open preference screen. However, students who cancel their registration within the preference period will regain the right to submit preferences.

Students Who Did Not Take the 2020 LGS Will Be Locally Placed

Students who did not take the 2020 LGS will also be placed through local placement. Those students can make preferences in two categories: schools that admit students via local placement and boarding schools. Vocational Education Centers Can Also Be Chosen: A second improvement concerns the timing of preferences for vocational education centers and open high schools. In 2019, preferences for these schools were made after the transfers that formed the basis for placement were completed, forcing students intent on attending these institutions to wait. With the change in the guide, students will be able to prefer vocational education centers or open high school options during the transfers that form the basis for placement. The placement results will be published on meb.gov.tr on August 10, 2020.
