What Is KYK?
KYK stands for Credit and Dormitories Institution. It is a government agency that provides dormitories, scholarships, and loans to students. The institution aims to support students in higher education by offering accommodation, meals, financial aid and credit services that make studying easier.
Each year, KYK continues to provide dormitory placements for higher education students. Operating under the Ministry of Youth, KYK offers reduced-rate, deferred payment or free accommodation options depending on eligibility.
How to Apply to KYK
To apply to KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution), you must first prepare the required documents. If you are applying for dormitory accommodation and will be completing final registration, collect the documents requested for registration. Placement and registration are made according to priority order.
Priority documents may include: proof of priority status; a certificate from the Social Security Institution if you are the child of a martyr or veteran; a medical report from a hospital if you have a disability; a document from Darüşşafaka if you completed secondary or high school there; or a death certificate from the population registry if a parent has passed away. In addition to these documents, you will need four passport photos taken within the last six months, a copy of your ID, and, if under 18, a parental consent form. You must also pay the dormitory fee and apply within the announced application period to secure a place.
If you are newly placed into a higher education program—such as preparatory year, first-year or transfer students—you can apply through the KYK website after receiving your exam results from ÖSYM.
Conditions for KYK Accommodation
- Be enrolled in a full-time program at a higher education institution that provides formal education.
- Unless you have an acceptable excuse, your family should not reside in the district where the dormitory is located.
- No criminal record.
- No lifetime expulsion from KYK dormitories.
- No regular income at or above minimum wage (internship income is not considered).
- Mental and psychological health must be at a level that does not disturb others.
KYK Dormitory Duration
- If you receive a KYK dormitory placement or scholarship, accommodation is provided for the standard duration of your degree program. In case of vertical or horizontal transfers within the same city, you may use the dormitory for the remaining duration of your new program.
- If you finish one program and start another, you must renew your application. KYK treats transferred students as continuing students and provides support accordingly.
- If you exhibit good behavior and demonstrate need, you may receive a one-year extension if you cannot complete your program within the standard period.
- If you leave your studies and later return and receive dormitory support, your accommodation rights continue from the year you left, resuming at that class level.
KYK Dormitory Fees and Payment Deadlines
Payments for KYK dormitories are processed through banks and are charged on a monthly basis. Fees are calculated by 30-day periods. The fee for the first month and the final month of stay are prorated by day. Monthly dormitory fees must be paid by 21:00 on the last day of the month. If you attend summer school and continue to stay in the dormitory, the normal monthly fee applies. If the monthly dormitory fee is not paid, a deposit may be required. Deposits are collected within the first 10 days of the following month. Students who do not pay deposits are typically those protected by the state, such as orphans.
