After the cabinet meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “We will not compromise on the basics we call complete: cleanliness, masks and distancing.” He stated that their goal is to reduce the number of coronavirus cases and deaths to zero or as close to zero as possible. He emphasized that the country is determined to move away from the high-risk category. Within the normalization schedule, they have reopened services and production in almost all sectors except for a few areas. He noted that they have kept the country standing by providing support to all segments during the outbreak and that the state has made all of its resources available to the people. He added that they have tried to minimize the difficulties of this extraordinary period for everyone and that, step by step, economic activity is approaching March levels.

Short-Time Work Allowance Extended by One Month

The Short-Time Work Allowance has been extended for one month. President Erdoğan also stated that tomorrow 926 young people under state protection and 274 relatives of martyrs and veterans will be placed in public institutions by lot. Results will be announced on the Family and Labor Ministry’s website. He reported that more than 6 billion in assistance has been delivered to households under the social protection shield. The period for current beneficiaries of the short-time work allowance will be extended by one month. He confirmed that cash wage support will also continue for one more month due to the dismissal restriction.

He noted that Europe has largely brought the coronavirus outbreak under control while the pandemic continues at full force in South and North America and Asia. With over 10 million cases and more than 500,000 deaths worldwide, the world faces a historic test. The continuation of the outbreak makes it difficult for the country to see ahead, he said. He stressed that Turkey’s healthcare infrastructure and health insurance system are indisputable, and that even in the most challenging conditions they have kept many sectors running, proving the country’s production capacity to the world. Where developed countries have been helpless, Turkey has not only become self-sufficient but also a source of hope for many friends. The President appealed to the public: “My only request is that during this process you follow the rules, protect your workplaces, production and country, and support us.” He expressed gratitude to every citizen whose responsible and diligent behavior contributes to Turkey’s growth.
