Each year, nearly three million students in our country take university entrance exams to pursue undergraduate studies. These exams begin in March, with additional sessions held in June, and results are typically announced around July. Candidates then select the programs and universities that match their scores, and preference results are usually released in August. Many students move away from their families to live in another city, and covering housing, food, and other living expenses away from home can be challenging. Unfortunately, some accommodation providers and dormitory managers raise prices, making university life even harder for students. Considering the average household income in the country, financing a university education can be a serious financial burden for many families.
To help alleviate these difficulties, the state offers various forms of assistance to university students. The Credit and Dormitories Institution (Kredi Yurtlar Kurumu, KYK) is the government body established to support student needs. As the name implies, KYK primarily addresses students’ housing needs, but it also offers scholarships or loans. Whether aid is a non-repayable scholarship (KYK bursu) or a repayable student loan (KYK kredi) depends on the terms granted to the individual after their application. What Is the KYK Scholarship?
Every year, university students apply online for KYK scholarships and loans. KYK provides monthly financial assistance to selected students. If the support is defined as non-repayable, it is considered a KYK scholarship; if it must be paid back, it is treated as a KYK loan. Applications are open to all students, but priority consideration is often given to orphans, children of martyrs, and students from low-income families. Based on these criteria, some applicants receive the scholarship.
In 2015, following a policy change introduced by the state through KYK, the government announced an increase in student support. The pledge was that scholarships would be raised to 400 TL, and from the 2016 academic year, students began receiving that amount. After further review, from 2017 the scholarship amount was adjusted once more, and students started receiving 425 TL. Although the increase was modest, it provided some relief to students facing financial challenges.

Students who wish to receive financial aid from KYK must submit an application. These applications are no longer handled in person at institution offices. Thanks to widespread internet access, students can now apply online from home. KYK has simplified the process so applicants can complete their submissions quickly and conveniently without visiting an office. To check KYK scholarship results online, follow the official steps described below.
When you access the KYK inquiry page, you will see a screen like the one in the image. To proceed, enter your national ID number, family book page (cilt) number, family serial number (aile sıra numarası), and your individual serial number (sıra numarası). Then correctly type the security code shown and click the “Sorgula” (Query) button. After submitting this information, your KYK scholarship result will be displayed.
