Breaking good news for students: thousands have just received an important announcement. It has been declared that dormitory fees will be refunded. Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu delivered the news to hundreds of thousands of students, announcing that fees paid for state-run dormitories will be returned. Minister Kasapoğlu stated that roughly 380,000 students will receive refunds for dormitory fees. He also announced that no dormitory fees will be collected from students for April, May, and June.

Those Fees Will Be Refunded to Students

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, confirmed that dormitory fees charged during the coronavirus period will be refunded. He announced that the dormitory fee paid for March will be reimbursed and that no fees will be charged for April, May, and June. According to his statement, refunds have begun for students housed in dormitories overseen by the General Directorate of Credit and Dormitories Agency (KYK). Approximately 380,000 students who paid the March fee are expected to receive refunds totaling around 53 million Turkish Lira. The specified amount is being returned to students who made payments.

In a further announcement, Minister Kasapoğlu reiterated that dormitory fees due for April, May, and June will not be collected from students. This measure aims to ease financial pressure on students and support them during the ongoing public health situation. Refunds are being processed through the relevant institutional channels, and affected students should monitor their accounts or official communications for confirmation of payment.

Students who believe they are eligible but have not yet received a refund are advised to contact their dormitory administration or the KYK helpdesk for clarification. The ministry’s decision covers state-run dormitories under KYK administration; privately operated residences are subject to separate arrangements. The temporary suspension of fee collection for the three-month period is part of broader steps intended to provide relief and ensure continuity of student housing during these challenging times.

The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to supporting students: refunds for March are underway, and dormitory fees for April through June will be waived. Students affected by these measures should keep documentation of payments and any related communications until their refunds are completed, and follow official channels for updates.
