Malls in Istanbul Have Decided to Close Temporarily. New precautionary measures against the coronavirus continue to be added almost daily. All steps are being taken to reduce loss and to overcome the outbreak as quickly as possible. In line with these efforts, a new decision has been made: some shopping malls in Istanbul have temporarily closed due to the coronavirus threat. Akiş Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ortaklığı A.Ş., owner of Akbatı and Akasya malls, informed the stock exchange that it has temporarily closed both centers. Additionally, City’s AVM in Nişantaşı has also been closed.
Akiş Gayrimenkul released a statement explaining that, given the distressing developments both globally and domestically, they have suspended operations at their shopping centers for a limited period to protect the health of store employees, visitors and company staff. The company stated its belief that, after the outbreak is brought under control, operations will resume with the same energy and enthusiasm. They also said they will continue to keep investors informed of further developments.
Ankamall Remains Open, but 110 Stores Are Closed
Ankamall remains open, but 110 stores have temporarily shut down. In a disclosure to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), Yeni Gimat GYO reported that out of 350 tenants at Ankamall, 110 have suspended operations due to the coronavirus outbreak. Yeni Gimat also stated that Ankamall will remain open until official guidance from public authorities indicates otherwise.
Meanwhile, City’s AVM in Istanbul’s Nişantaşı district has been closed. Earlier today, the Shopping Centers Investors Association reiterated its recommendation that malls consider temporary closures in response to the pandemic.
