The Social Insurance Institution was established in Turkey in 1946 to provide social and health services to the public. Previously operating under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, since 2006 it has continued its services under the Social Security Institution (SGK). The SGK offers a range of services to individuals, one of which is updating SSK information. After graduating, people enter the workforce in public institutions or the private sector. From the start date of employment, the employer initiates the insurance registration, and the individual becomes covered under the relevant insurance scheme for their sector. While insured, individuals are entitled to various social and health services. From the moment they become insured, they can access insurance-related information online and complete SSK information updates quickly. Insured workers can receive free examinations at state hospitals, specialty hospitals, training and research hospitals, and health centers. In private health facilities, the services available to you depend on the premiums you have paid: you may receive care free of charge or pay a portion of the examination fee that your insurance does not cover. The same principle applies to prescription medicines: some drugs are fully covered by the social security system, while others require a co-payment from the patient for the price difference.
What Does Updating SSK Information Cover?
Through the SGK website, employees can easily obtain all kinds of insurance-related information and documents. The site maintained by the Social Security Institution provides significant convenience and continues to be improved. One simple action available online is updating SSK information. Typically, SGK information updates are linked to a mobile phone number. When you add your mobile phone to your personal SGK profile, any updates about your insurance will be sent to your phone by SMS. This allows you to receive insurance-related information without visiting an SGK office.
The types of notifications you may receive by SMS include: SSK registration and enrollment transactions, individual premium payments, and specific payment notifications. For BAĞ-KUR insured individuals, notifications cover registration details; for civil servants under the Emekli Sandığı (Retirement Fund), registration notifications; and for SSK, BAĞ-KUR, or Emekli Sandığı, messages about job termination. SMS alerts also cover lump-sum payment processes, approval of retirement pension payments for eligible people, disability benefit payments for BAĞ-KUR and SSK insured individuals, nursing allowance payments for insured working mothers, service purchase (borçlanma) transactions, monthly pension payments for those who have become eligible for retirement, and funeral payment notifications for insured or retired individuals. In addition to receiving these messages, you can perform SSK information updates online.
