Support Payments and Unemployment Insurance Payments: When Do They Start? The coronavirus pandemic has prompted many measures worldwide and throughout our country to prevent its spread. To ease the socioeconomic impact on citizens, some support and assistance payments will be made by directive of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. These payments are being implemented within the scope of the Economic Stability Shield Package Support Program.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that, under the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, support payments of 1,000 TL to 2 million households were planned to begin on April 1, 2020, and to be completed within five days. However, to avoid putting citizens at risk given the current situation, a revised decision was made regarding the timing and method of payments.
Unemployment Payments Will Begin on Monday, April 6, 2020
Because of the coronavirus, the country has continued to take numerous precautions. Alongside these measures, it was announced that various support payments, including unemployment benefits, would be delivered to beneficiaries at home, and the start date for this home-delivery practice became a subject of public interest. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that, within the scope of the coronavirus measures, unemployment insurance, job loss compensation, Wage Guarantee Fund payments and short-time working payments would be paid to citizens at their homes by PTT staff.
The minister indicated that the first phase of those payments would begin on Monday, April 6, 2020, and that 600,000 citizens would receive payments at home. He emphasized that these payments would not be available at PTT branches, PTT ATMs, or public bank ATMs. Karaismailoğlu also reminded citizens to maintain their precautions, saying that while authorities are concerned for their safety, people must also take care of themselves and their loved ones.
