Will There Be a 4-Day Curfew During Eid al-Fitr? Following the curfew imposed for the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports, attention has turned to measures for Eid al-Fitr. Many are wondering whether a four-day curfew will be implemented for the holiday. According to the latest information from the MYK meeting attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the president expressed support for a curfew during Eid. It is expected that the Scientific Advisory Board will advise in the same direction and that a curfew could be applied on May 23, 24, 25 and 26.
At a recent MYK meeting attended by President Erdoğan, the possibility of a curfew for Eid al-Fitr was discussed. The meeting also addressed pandemic-related evaluations and the normalization process. Based on research presented by advisors, the recommendation to support a curfew for the holiday was conveyed to the president. With input from the Scientific Advisory Board, authorities are considering implementing a curfew on May 23–26, 2020.
Turkey Aims for a V-Shaped Recovery
During the meeting, economic developments were also reviewed and Turkey’s situation compared with other countries. Officials evaluated recovery models—L, U and V—across European Union countries and emphasized that Turkey has achieved significant success to date and is aiming for a V-shaped recovery. Production and tourism were highlighted as crucial sectors during this period, and authorities stated they are taking cautious but deliberate steps to support these areas.
After crisis periods, countries’ economic recovery paths are often described by letters. A V-shaped recovery represents the quickest rebound: a sharp decline followed by a rapid return to pre-crisis levels. A U-shaped recovery denotes a slower, more gradual improvement, with a longer bottoming-out period before recovery begins.
