Free Round-Trip Ticket Applications for Students Now Open

President Erdoğan’s announced “We Cover Our Students’ Home Tickets” project will provide travel support for students at every level who need to return to their hometowns. The state will cover round-trip fares once every six months for students studying away from their home city.

Applications for the program are now open. The payment per ticket is set at 750 TL. The initiative aims to assist primary, secondary and higher education students who study in different provinces away from their families. This announced support will make it easier for students to travel home, particularly helping those who face difficulty affording round-trip tickets.

Four Tickets Support for Students

Following the announcement, applications have started. The state will pay for students’ outbound and return tickets twice a year, so travel will not pose a financial burden. The total support budget is 300 million TL. Some 150,000 university students are expected to benefit from the program.

This welcome news has been greeted with joy by students and parents alike. While in 2022 each ticket was supported with 500 TL, this year the amount rises to 750 TL per ticket. To benefit from the total 3,000 TL support, the student or the student’s family must submit an application in person to the relevant Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation located at the family’s registered residence.

Payments are transferred by the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations (SYDV) to the student’s IBAN account, ensuring the funds reach students for their travel expenses. The “We Cover Our Students’ Home Tickets” program is available to students aged 25 and under.

Family and Social Services Minister Derya Yanık commented on the project, stating, “We will cover the round-trip tickets for children of families receiving social assistance who are studying away from home, including undergraduates and those under 25.” By including students in social assistance and covering travel costs, the program allows students to more easily visit their families.

The program covers not only university students but also primary and secondary school students, reducing the financial burden of transportation for families and students.
