How to Calculate Vehicle Inspection Fees for 2020

Vehicle inspection is the process of checking whether registered vehicles meet the safety and roadworthiness standards required to travel safely in traffic. Inspections are carried out at regular intervals for every vehicle on the road.

Inspections are performed by authorized personnel at vehicle inspection stations. After the inspection is completed, the vehicle inspection fee must be paid.

What Is the Vehicle Inspection Fee?

Vehicle inspection fees are set annually by the government and vary according to vehicle category. The announced amounts include VAT. The vehicle inspection fee refers to the labor charge that vehicle owners must pay after their vehicle has been inspected. Vehicle owners should go to TÜVTÜRK inspection stations with their vehicles, have the inspection performed and pay the inspection fee in cash.

How Is a Vehicle Inspection Performed?

Inspections are carried out according to the vehicle class. For example, topics and types of inspection differ for heavy vehicles compared to private or commercial vehicles. To have a vehicle inspected, an appointment must first be made with TÜVTÜRK inspection stations via the internet, the call center, or by visiting a station in person. On the scheduled date, the owner or an authorized person should bring the vehicle to the inspection station for the check. Because payments are accepted in cash, individuals should bring cash when they go for inspection.

Who Must Have a Vehicle Inspection?

Private, commercial and official vehicles that are in traffic or will enter traffic must undergo inspection. The vehicle owner does not have to be present at the inspection station; another person may attend on the owner’s behalf with the vehicle registration document. It is important to note that the person who brings the vehicle to the station will receive the vehicle back after the inspection. Therefore, the person who brings the vehicle should be prepared to take it back upon completion.

What Is the Vehicle Inspection Penalty?

The vehicle inspection penalty is applied when a vehicle continues to be used on the road after the last inspection validity date has passed and is detected by traffic police. Ten points are deducted from the driver’s license points, and a monetary fine of 288 TRY is imposed. Additionally, if the vehicle owner goes to an inspection station after the inspection validity has expired, a late fee of 5% of the inspection fee is added for each month overdue. For example, if the standard inspection fee is 200 TRY and the inspection is one month late, the total due becomes 210 TRY including the late penalty.

What Is the Last Inspection Validity Date?

The last inspection validity date is the period during which a vehicle is deemed roadworthy after its inspection has been completed. Until that date, the vehicle is expected to operate safely. The validity date is set for safety reasons: uninspected or poorly maintained vehicles increase the risk of traffic accidents. To reduce these risks, an inspection validity date is assigned and vehicle owners who fail to inspect their vehicles before that date may face fines. Ensuring inspections are performed before the validity date is therefore essential for public safety.

Emission tests are conducted at vehicle inspection stations and payments are accepted in cash only; credit or debit cards are not accepted.
